    AT&T cell site upgrades

I noticed AT&T is adding a fourth panel per sector on their cell sites in the St. Louis area. Does anybody know what itís for? Itís the top rack, third panel from the left in the picture:

Thatís a Quintel panel. Verizon is doing two per sector in many areas nationwide on new LTE site builds as well as rip & replaces. Theyíve got lots of ports to theyíre able to support multiple bands with 4x4 MIMO. My guess would be B30 & B2 both with 4x4 MIMO coming out of that panel.

Also, just curious, whoís that on the bottom rack, TMO or VZ?

I thought it looked like a Quintel panel. I was trying to figure out if they were adding more spectrum here. I donít see any band 30 here yet so maybe itís for that like you said. So far my AT&T phone is only showing bands 17 & 2.

Verizon is on the bottom. Small panel in the center is for AWS band 4 from what I can tell.

Yeah, thatís correct. Middle panel on the bottom sector is an E/// AIR32. Donít see Verizon using them too much, so I was curious. AT&Tís using 4 panels per sector just for UMTS/B12/B2? Surprising.

They added a panel similar to that on one of the water tower sites here. Added B30 which would bring 4x4 as well.

Most AT&T sites here (STL City/County) have bands 2 and 17 already and when a site gets upgraded, it is bands 4 and 30 that get added. I am going to guess the new antenna will support both of those.

    Where is that site located?

I recommend and use CellMapper and Sensorly for testing and mapping signal coverage and have contributed extensively to both projects in the greater St. Louis region and surrounding states.

    AT&T cell site upgrades

The site pictured on the far eastern edge of Belleville, IL.

    The approximate address is:
    139 Lincoln Place Ct
    Belleville, IL 62221

You can use google street view to see the tower but itís outdated and doesnít even show the Verizon rack added a few years ago.

Thanks! I've been by the site two or three times. It currently has just bands 2 and 12/17 so I would assume this one is getting bands 4 and 30 in this upgrade.

AT&T recently replaced all antennas on the flagpole pictured below- going from 6 antennas to 9. I donít think they added additional bands - unless the 3 extra antennas are for FirstNet? AT&T has 3-4 antennas per sector on other area sites where they can offset the antennas from the tower.

On the other hand, Verizon continues to use only 2 antennas per sector (they have bands 2, 4, 5, 13 and 66 here). In this site under construction, note that they have chosen to make it 4-sectors.

New Verizon 4-sector site on top, Sprintís 3-antennas x 3-sectors below.
