Bring Your Own Pixel 2 to T-Mobile, get $325 (No Band 71)

Verizon continues to be Google’s US carrier partner of choice when it comes to spreading the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL around. With starting prices of $649 and $849, consumers can also opt to get them unlocked at the Google Store and use their device on the other major carriers, too. And there’s 24-month device financing as well.

Like last year, rebel network T-Mobile is trying to hitch on with a deal of its own. #BYOPixel is back for another year and all porting or existing customers need to get in on $325 MasterCard debit card is to bring their Pixel 2 onto the network and start or add a line.

The two new Pixels support all of Un-carrier’s advanced network technologies like 256-QAM and 4×4 MIMO. They do not support Band 71 LTE, also known as the 600MHz band.

Add to this to the boatloads of fun T-Mobile’s having with Verizon complaining about its competitor’s misleading advertising.
“The Internet wasn’t meant to be metered in bits and bytes, so it’s insane that wireless companies are still making you buy it this way. The rate plan is dead — it’s a fossil from a time when wireless was metered by every call or text.” John Legere 1/5/2017

Step 1: Buy that Pixel from Google
    Step 2: #BYOPixel to @tmobile
Step 3: Get up to 50% back on your new Pixel

The new Pixel 2 features a water-resistant metal unibody and runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor for up to 7 hours of battery on 15 minutes of charging. Other features include 12.2MP camera, 8MP selfie camera, 5-inch OLED (Pixel 2), 6-inch OLED (Pixel 2 XL), front firing speakers, 4GB RAM and 64GB /* 128GB Storage. The Pixel 2 comes in three color choices and the Pixel 2 XL in two.

When it comes to wireless connectivity, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will support LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/20/25/26/28/29/30/32/38/40/41/66. Both phones also support network features like 3x Carrier Aggregation, 4×4 MIMO, 256 QAM for downloads, and 64 QAM for uploads.

Both phones also feature Active Edge, which will let you launch Google Assistant by squeezing the sides of your phone to launch Google Assistant. They’ll also include a preview of Google Lens, a feature that’ll let you point your camera at something in the world and get more info about it, like the artist of a painting or the email address off a flyer.

Another software feature of Google’s new Pixel include an Always On Display with Now Playing, which can identify the music that’s playing around you without you having to ask. Google has slightly tweaked the home page of the Pixel 2, moving the search bar to the bottom of the display where it’s easier to reach and putting an At A Glance widget at the top to show your upcoming appointments and more.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will come with Android 8.0 Oreo and are guaranteed three years of OS and security updates.

Thanks but not needed. T-Mobile slogan should change to "But, Add a Line"

Although not ideal, you could in theory open a line for one month then close it. You'd likely be out $40 for the month plus the price of the SIM but half the cost of the Pixel 2 is given to you up front. Am I wrong here? Let me know.

I believe last year they kept you on the hook since they only applied monthly device credits for an extended period of time.

“To take advantage of T-Mobile’s limited time offer of up to half off your Pixel 2, simply purchase an unlocked Pixel from Google, Verizon or other original retailer, port in a number or activate a new line of service, sign up for T-Mobile ONE and enter the deets at T-Mobile’s online*validation site. Existing customers can get in on the deal too when they add a line of T-Mobile ONE or Simple Choice Unlimited. Your money will be mailed to you in a MasterCard card (for a grand total of $325 or half the cost of a 64GB Pixel 2).”

    A couple other fine-print notes:

You have to be the original buyer, so don’t get a device off Craigslist, even if it’s new in box

If the Pixel 2 goes out of stock, don’t worry — as long as you place a pre-order while the deal is running, you’ll get money regardless of when you activate the handset on T-Mobile’s network

You have to add a plan to your account within 30 days of activating the device.

I wish Tmo would spell out conditions better in their documentation. I suspect that all of the companies are deliberately vague in the hopes you will go into a store where you have to talk to salespeople who are trained to sell you things. In any case, my rule is to never ask a salesperson in a store anything and expect to get a correct answer!
