They run data over Sprint, but Talk/Text runs over their app (VoIP) so there isn't any native calling.

Here is a very recent thread regarding TextNow that you should read: http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...hlight=textnow

What is your goal? How many minutes and texts do you use per month? Do you need cellular data? There may be a better than the TextNow $13.99/mo plan, depending on your usage.

For me, for example, if I were to go back to a prepaid paid plan, I'd probably choose the Red Pocket 500/500/500 plan for $10/mo, or $7.50/mo if prepaid $89.99/year via eBay.

I heard of TextNow Wireless from a mention on a site like prepaidphonenews. They mentioned a cheap maybe $20 smartphone like the Moto E, probably refurb for that price. Didn't see it at the website. Saw other low cost phones. I've seen TextNow as a texting app on Google Play with its own phone number sort of like Google Voice. Just wanted to know if it seemed good or if it was best avoided. I don't use many talk minutes at all, mostly texts, mms, & i do email or browsing with WiFi. I have a Google Voice # i use with Hangouts so don't really need another WiFi type alias number. The 13.99 price sounds ok but for now i guess i'll stick with tmfl Tracfone & H20 $10/90 day plans.

Thankyou for the link to the other TextNow thread, maybe it'll help some others who just found out about it.

The fact it is all VoIP is not true. Most calls will run over cellular when not connected to WiFi.
