is it true the e4 plus has horrible sound quality?

it looks like the perfect phone for me but I keep reading reports of poor reception sound quality from both ends

you sound muffled to the caller and the caller sounds muffled to you

For me its hit or miss. Some people I have to hold the phone away from my ear its so clear and loud. Other times its " what did you say" a few times during the conversation. Still a descent phone

I've had the E4 for a few months and haven't noticed any issues with SQ. Coming from a Lumia 640 I don't notice much if any difference in the sound and I haven't had people on the other end say anything about it. I've got the Verizon PP version if that matters.

I only use speakerphone and it sounds good to me.
I never use phones up to my ear so I can't say if it is better or worse than other phones.

Just got the e4 plus & the sound quality of the earpiece is not horrible, but rather just so-so. It's not as good as my Moto G4 Play which is the best I have found for legacy calls. (UMTS & 1x)

The problem is the sound of the e4 plus needs more treble & less low midrange. Works OK most of the time, but if you talk to anyone with a somewhat crappy phone on Verizon 1x, it can be annoying trying to hear them. My friends iPhone 6 Plus is one of them. If he would turn on Advanced Calling it would help improve clarity, but at the cost of reliability.
