I’m hoping this version improves battery life dramatically. Also a few other annoying bugs that have plagued iOS 11.

I found a significant improvement in battery life.
In 10.x.x, I typically ended my day with 65-70% battery left. In 11.0 through 11.0.3, it was more like 45-50%. With 11.1 (which I've been using since beta 3), I'm getting 60-65%.
Early 11.2 beta 1 reports seem to indicate even better battery life than 11.1. Since that beta has only been out since Monday, it may still be too early to tell.

Oh wow! That means iOS 11.2 shouldn’t be too far off. Looking forward to better battery life finally.

Downloaded 11.1. Several apps appear to respond to the touch more quickly. I had initially thought the apps were not optimized for iOS 11 but apparently it was the iOS.

11.1 is awful for me. Wish I never would have updated. Aside from the new industrial look I’m getting many app crashes and freezing, parts of screen unresponsive especially when trying to access that small back/app icon in top left, lots more lag and choppy screen scrolling. Ugh.

Downloaded 11 on my iPad, iPod, and iPad mini. Went to download on my iPhone 6 bought new less then a year ago) and it won't download past the "one hour remaining" that's been 2 days now. That forces me to either leave at home connected to wifi or blow through all my minimum data on cellar. I am thinking the only solution is to go to factory reset (have it backed up on iCloud) just to lose it trying to update and forget the update. Suggestions?

Have you tried updating it via iTunes on a computer?

Just tried that, unfortunately I had to updated the iTunes on laptop, because it wouldn't do it without that. Like, who wants to wait for that slow windows laptop (it's not that old either) when I have an iPhone/iPad/iPod? Plugged in the phone, and it did stop the download and returned it to " request update" So far, so good. I could have gone on to update it on iTunes, but I needed to do other things. I will try that latter, but in the meantime I solved the spinning wheel "one hour remaining" problem. Thanks! I do like the new update on the other "apples" I have.

Whether or not you can do an over the air update (Wi-Fi) update, depends upon the size of the update and the amount of free space on the device which you are trying to update, With over the air updates there must be room for the downloaded update plus its expanded installation package. With iTunes, the update file is downloaded and extracted on the computer. There only has to be room on the device for the installed update. Usually updates ending ".0" are larger than those ending in ".x.y."
