Question Old Battery and a New Battery Options?

I own an iPhone5s, had it for a year or so, but been noticing recently, that the battery isn't holding a charge that well. It will charge to 100% then I will take it off the chord, use it for a few minutes and it will say it is down to 50%. Does this mean my battery is no good, should I go ahead and buy a new battery for $30 from Apple or just buy a new phone?

From reports, I thought the $29 battery offer are only for iPHone 6 and later phones.
I gave into temptation, and bought the iPhone X, even though I had a perfectly good, though oversized, 7+.

With older phones, it may be appropriate to see if your carrier has any type of discounted offer on the SE. I've seen some offers for well under $200. Get a whole new phone with new battery, updated internals, etc.

5s battery replaced by Apple will run $79+. Local repair shop will run $30-35. Will give you at least another year of service that way. But I wouldn't be updating iOS anymore for it, or you'll choke it. SE is a much better phone (twice the RAM and faster CPU, better camera, etc.). Runs iOS 11 just fine. Can be as low as $150-159 for some prepaid options. The AT&T prepaid SE is reported to run as is on postpaid AT&T or ant AT&T MVNO. The ST or TW SE will run on ST, TW, or PP. My wife and I each have one of these on PP.

So you're not having any problems with iOS 11? From what "the media" writes, iOS 11 is problematic. Which version of 11 are you on? I'm still hanging with 10.3.3 on my iPhone SE but have been thinking of trying to go back to 9.3.5 to get away from the slowdown introduced in 10.2.1. I have the ipsw file as well as an older backup from 9.3.5 but a bit gun-shy to try it.

I have had no problems with iOS 11 on my iPhone 6S. Works great. Running latest iOS 11 beta. Same with my iPhone 5S, which is running fine. I did a clean install with both, which made a huge difference, for me.

A: No, I would treat her as an equal.

Thanks for the reply Doolie. I'm staying with 10.3.3 for the time being, but will have to consider moving to 11 when Apple corrects the throttling issue. I'm not a "power user" when it comes to cell phones so I may be making more of this than necessary...

To each their own. Never noticed any throttle issue with either phone, just my anecdotal experience.

Ha I am a part of a free government phone program, that allowed me to bring my unlocked iPhone5S from Boost Mobile to them, the company I am with now is called TAG MOBILE. So how I am going to get my battery replaced is tricky. :/

Just go pay for a battery replacement if you need one. The price will likely be the normal price. Not tricky at all.

Same here. I can't notice any real difference between my SE on iOS 10 and iOS 11; there's one app that's a little slower to start up and I can wait for that one.

FWIW, though I don't like how Apple tends to slack on support for older (yet ostensibly supported) versions of iOS, it remains that iOS 11 will be the one that will get the most security updates (at least until iOS 12 is introduced).
