The strangest cell phone tower ever!!!

Ok...so yesterday and today I had to drive up to Somers, NY for a meeting with IBM and so I had to take the Hutchingson River Parkway to get up there. Yesterday I am driving up...and I am not sure what exit number it is...but there is a gas station in the center median, I see this huge tree...that sticks out above the rest. Thought nothing of it. This morning, driving up, my curiousity gets the best of me and decide to take a closer look...only to find that the tree trunk is not real...its metal painted brown. Then...between the "pine" what do I see??? Cell phone repeaters!!! Yes...it is a cell phone tower disguised as a tree!!!!! I WISH I had a camera with me...but...has anyone else in NY seen this??? IF anyone has or can take a pic...can you post it?? I was quite suprised and intrigued by this! Has anyone else seen any wierd towers like this one?

There are a bunch of them around where I live. Some towns require that they be "low-profile."

I've seen the one you're referring to. In general I think the fake tree cell towers look dumber than just a plain tower. Most of them look so clearly fake that it's a waste to even try to disguise them.

    Birmingham...

There are a few rather convincing ones around Birmingham, AL...

And a few not so convincing ones...

The practice is not that uncommon, especially near residential areas.

The only tower I've ever seen in Honolulu is the one on top of the Pali tunnel. It's painted a dark green and it actually blends in quite well with the trees and bushes.

There are a bunch of those in SoCal, some look great when there are other trees arounds but when they are by themselves they do look silly.

Cell towers are also disguised as signs, church steeples, chimneys, fake parts of buildings, water towers. palm trees, rocks, cactuses, etc.

    There are many photos here:

There are a lot of those along the PA Turnpike. Some do look good and blend in nicely but others stick out like crazy.

A buddy of mine worked for one of the larger companies that designes and installs these beauties.

I thought he was kidding when he told me about it! In Orlando, the one I know about is not too bad looking.

i think i have seen one or two on the park way in nj.

they don't look that wierd when mixed with real trees......its the one that is standing by itself that is strange.....

there is one IIRC around a mile from the route 1 exit on the parkway next to a small shack in between the north and south bound lanes.

Hahahaha I know what you're talking about, it's just after the Mobil station. I never thought to take a picture of it though, it looks just like the picture the other person posted.

The funniest part was when they first put it up, it had maybe two or three "branches", then as time passed they would add branches little by little...

    quite curious!

Yup that one looks stupid. It's the only one I have seen in the median of a road. It seems like a logical place to have a cell tower. Too bad that one looks stupid.
