This sucks. **SIGH**
Why is it that everyone has inter carrier sms now, but every complany wants to rip off the consumer with this $0.10 ********. I noticed(and confirmed) that fido still offers their "FIDOPRO" package that gives you unlimited sms. i was upset that the other companies arent doing this. If anything they have retarded options like $5 for unlimited receive. yay.![]()
Come on, these companies have to wake up! If you look at Europe(at least Vodafone) cell phone companies have gotten so competetive that they offer unbelievable plans. ie, 1p/ per minute and 1p per sms. And thir phones are another story altogether. they offer the Ericsson t68 for 50 pounds with activation and no contract. But this is trailing off into another thread completely..![]()
Unlimited sms is an option that every company should offer @ an affordable price. I can honestly say that $8 with fido is dirt cheap. I'm willing to pay $10 just for the unlimited sms feature. Telus, Bell, Rogers....WAKE UP!!!

You're forgetting the purpose of SMS. It is intended to be an additional source of revenue for carriers. They don't offer it just because its convenient and cool...they offer it because they can make money off of it.
So its not for convenience or coolness?? I dont know aboot that. Most things advertised by telus are because of the coolness levels. example: "Check out our cool phones" on their brochures.
don't know if you've been glue sniffing but it says right here that telusmobility offers unlimited text messaging for $5/month:

edit: okay, sorry, links don't work because of s(...)html. just look for the text messaging links through the main page then.

What carriers do is try to find new and interesting products that appeal to customers, but also will result in new revenue. SMS is one of these. Yes its probably going to be advertised as cool and neato awesome, but the underlying reason for offering the service is based on revenue whether it be through customer retention, new customers, or existing customers paying more money.Originally posted by VTECMAN

Its business, and in the end it all comes down to money![]()
but then why even offer unlimited evenings and weekends at all?? they could cap it @ 1000 min and make money off people too...
For most people unlimited is the same as 1000 minutes. Only a minority of people actually use that much airtime in the evenings and weekend timeframes.Originally posted by VTECMAN

Its actually very strange because the whole evenings and weekends thing seems to be a canadian obsession whereas in the US they advertise them by minutes. like 3000 minutes for $30 when what they've really done is figured out how many minutes there are on evenings and weekends and just printed it.
Canadians are obsessed with UNLIMITED...sheesh
exactly my point with sms as well.
