Well it please me to say they are wrong. 16 hr charge is not necessary.
Just plug the phone in until it reads full, then remove and reconnect the charger until it says full again.

I wrote to Sony Ericsson and they gave me the official lowdown on charging the T610.
First charge has to be for 16 hrs with PHONE TURNED OFF
After this you need only charge the phone for 3-4 hrs.
Should the phone become completely juiced out you will need to do the first charge all over again as if it is a fresh battery (16hrs with the phone turned off!)
This source is from the official Sony Ericsson T610 from the UK.
Hope this is useful to all those wondering about the battery.

Msg from SysAdm: I've upped my priority; now up yours.
you might want to write to ericsson to tell them hehe
no need![]()
Yeah, that's the old school way. I do that with my new batteries, too. I am old fashioned.
There are tons of people who don't charge a new battery that way and nothing's ever went wrong with their phones.
i actually think it's necessary.Originally posted by jonbob

before I did that, my phone wont last even 2 full days, but after I did that, turned the phone off, and kept it hooked up for at least 16-20 hours, and now my phone will last about 3-3.5 days!
pretty cool
hey do what you want guys,
I've done what ericsson said and my battery is lasting a day longer than how I charged it initially.
Do it too see if it works out for you too.
But after maybe 4 hours (even with your phone off) the battery indicator isn't moving anymore, which I assume means the battery isn't getting charged anymore (right?).
if that's true then it's not worth the 16-20 hr DOWN time IMO. it's the only phone i've got.Originally posted by flyhen

To be precise, it means the phone thinks the battery is full. Which is why you unplug it and plug back in again.Originally posted by hawk1500

when i get a new phone I cant wait for 16 hours to start using it, i can hardly wait 16 minutes.
Yeah, so if the phone *thinks* it's full, leaving it in for 16 hours wouldn't do anything right?
I've been doing the plug it in till it's full, unplug do it again thing, seems to be better? I don't know cause now I just charge it all the time.![]()
We need battery experts in the house!
I'm not sure if it's true for all batteries, but some batteries (e.g. NiMH) will fill up the longer you leave it in because of a "trickle charge" that continues to charge the phone at, well, a trickle even after the indicators show it's full. Then again, NiMH are old-school batteries, and Li-Ion/polymer aren't supposed to have the memory effect?
I left the T610 overnight for the first charge, and I now plug the phone in the desktop charger whenever I want. Doesn't seem to affect the excellent 3 day battery life with heavy usage![]()

the new batteries these days do not matter, just use and go whenever. lifewise the difference is not charging but usage. How much u use it and how much u exert it... like standby vs bluetooth vs calling vs etc....
the more u exert it the faster the life on the battery goes out (Ex. Calling someone for 24 hours)
