hey FAQ (Viet_Guy_SJ) and others...
i think it would be easier if we tried to compile all of the codes and firmware information into sticky's and perhaps one person would be in charge of updating it rather than having miscellaneous threads here and there.
for instance i remember seeing a code as to how to check if a GSM phone is locked and now i can't find it again![]()
so it would probably be easier if the FAQ was complete and formatted for the various codes and firmwares

I knkow the codes to find out if a 6190 is locked are
#PW+(mastercode)+(x)#
Where
P = **
W= ***
+ = **** (Kinda like SMS with no T9)
Master code = Unclock code to Remove the locks or simply 1234567890 to check them !!!! NOTE!!!! DO not Check Locks more than 4 Times!!!!
X = Lock Type
X = 1 Provider Lock
X = 2 Network Lock
X = 3 SimLock (locked to First Sim)
X = 4 Network Lock Or something
On fido GSM usually Locks 1 and 2 are closed, At least they were with my 6190
So to check on my 6190 i would enter:
#**/***/****/1234567890/****/1 (OR) 2#
and it would reveal Code ERROR
Code Error Means the lock is in place and I don't have the unlock.
on 3 and 4 it should say Sim Restriction Off meaning that the Sim card can be changed within the Company (lost/broken).
Something to that extent.

Eating as much as an elephant eats.
And what exactly does Locked and Unlocked mean?
It means you can use the phone on any provider you wish. With GSM phones, you just have to swap the SIM card, TDMA/CDMA is a lot more work and not really worth it.
