Number that makes your own landline phone ring when you hang up

Does anyone know the number that you dial on your own landline phone that will make it ring when you hang up?

OK. Not cool. Thanks. I used to love using it too. Wonder why they did away with them? It's not like it was adversely affecting anything. Another one of those Big Brother power trips I guess.

i use to call my own number and it worked. it would click a bunch of times until you hung up and then the phone would ring.

also, if you click on the hangup switchy thing fast and then hang up the handset, the phone rings.

I have call waiting, three-way calling, and voicemail, so all I get when I dial my own number is my voicemail.

This didn't work for me either. I even tried switching the phone to pulse dial (vs. tone dial), and it still was a no go.

Must be a Canadian thing. But thanks.

Tried that here in California, and all I got was a message saying that number had been disconnected. I didn't even dial one, which you should when dialing the area code along with the number. But I figured the 575 was a special code instead of an area code, as it is not a valid area code here in the States.

I knew it wouldn't work here, but I gave it a try anyway.

I assume the xxx-xxxx represents the number from which you are dialing.

If you're asking why someone would need to do this, it's for calling other people in the same house without having to go to the floor that they are on to talk to them.

People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs.

this reminds me of the phreaking (hacking telephones) days =)

Not too sure if this still works but you can do this.

    You must have call waiting.

Dial a # that has automated answering. (press 1 for this and press 2 for that etc.)
Quickly tap the receiver like you would to answer a call waiting.
it'll switch to the other line w/ a dial tone.
    call any #
you won't be able to make the call go through. It'l give you a quick busie signal.
    now just hang up

    the phone should now ring

I just tried it and it still works =)

Thing is, I have three way calling. So I will be able to dial another number. However, I can still do this and make it ring. I can call any number that answers, click over to the other line, and then hang up. It rings, but it puts me back on the phone with the automated number that I dialed originally.

You used to be able to pick up the receiver, dial some numbers (not even enough digits for a local call), and then hang up. It would then ring. When the phone was picked up, and then someone else picked up another phone in the house that uses the same line, you could talk to each other.

With the method that you suggest, you'd have to talk over the automated machine. Thanks for the effort, though.

I used to know that number. The guy who came out and did my DSL before I got a cable connection did it in front of me and told me the number. Why I didn't write it down I'll never know.

Anyone know any DSL guys? They may know the answer to my question as well.
