I'm porting one now, from sprint to t-mobile just to see how it goes. Hopefully, it's smooth and I'll transfer my other two.

I'm planning to drop my plan to the lowest possible price for the last phone the last day of my billing cycle in case it doesn't go through in time. I'm on contract for one phone which doesn't end till xmas even, so I know I'll have to pay an extra month unless I break contract or magically time it. I figure I'll just bite the bullet and pay 20 bones instead of a possible 200 for breaking contract.

I ported my number from at&t and they tried to play that contract crap out on me. I sent them a check for my final month in advanced and they accepted that. My number transfered on the 9th and my contract ends on the 14th. my bill comes in on the 15th but it's already paid for since my bill has been the same every month, I used that as a figure to go by.

She tried to play off that contract bs to me at first but I told her that if it's paid off, there is no breach of contract since I bought out my contract when I prepaid my last month....after talking to corporate for about 5 minutes they agreed it was ok.

If you feel they are trying to play you for a fool by taking their sweet time so they can scrape more $ out of you...file a fcc complaint. They arent supposed to charge you for additional months if your request is placed within the last month of your service.

I porter out from AT&T to T-Mobile in a matter of 3 days (Dec. 10- Dec. 13). Thought that would take much longer.

Successful port from ATT to T-Mobile

My port from ATT to TMo took just under 36 hours:

Thursday 7pm: purchased new phone and put contract in.
Friday 3pm: Contacted ATT, which confirmed that they released the number and were done.
    Saturday 4am: OTA OK

Haven't dealt with ATT on the final billing yet.

I just ported from Verizon to T-M (12-17-03) at 9 pm EST. Rep said could take 2 (early side) to 5 days. We'll see.

I ported a number from Verizon to T Mobile. It took 8 days.

The FCC and the wireless industry had agreed in advance that the process should take 2.5 hours. But there was punsihment in agreement if companies took longer.

I filed a complaint on the FCC site after 5 days of waiting. I'm not sure if problem was with Verizon or TMobile. TMobile called the next day and said they would be crediting account $35 for the extended wait.

But I can only make phone calls outta the TM phone, all incoming calls are still directed to the AT&T one. And TM custom service told me it takes several more weeks until i can receive calls from the TM phone! I was like

actually just got off the phone w/ tmobile and they told me this wasnt possible.. they told me that i had 2 lines on one account. wanted to switch the #s on the 2 lines and then cxl older line so that i could keep older # on newer line and thus get my t610 from amazon.com for free + jabra bluetooth headset + 200.00 in rebates + keep old #.. they were like it couldnt be done. doesnt make sense to me how they could port over another # from say att or verizon and cannot switch #s in between their accts.. makes no sense..

seems like i come out losing having to cxl newer line to keep old # and give back t610 + jabra headset. just doesnt sound like something that would be impossible to do..

    someone, please advise..
    thanks..

If you take a temp t-mobile number while you're waiting for port, looks like it adds 2 days to the process, and you have to call the number port after the two days - it goes into a queue from which it needs to be manually activated.

    3 ports
    • started on 8 dec - still not complete (sprint left off the last digit of my account number when i called them for it, middle initial left out, abbreviation for street not included on address). Make sure all your info is precise - bring bill with you. Other more mysterious problems since that first failure. Waiting on 3rd attempt now.
    • started on 18 dec - took 5 minutes
    • started on 24 dec - took 2 days (porting onto temp tmobile number)

Is there a direct line to the T-Mobile number transfer center for those with a temp. T-Mobile number? Every time I call what's supposed to be the transfer center, I get 'new user sales' and get transferred to a couple different incorrect departments.

I know it's not the transfer center when they answer my call in under a minute.

I ported from T-Mo to Verizon in the Pittsburgh area the day after my T-Mo contract was up on 12/20. The whole process took about 2 hours, even though the rep said it could take 3 days. Right after I got my new phone I could dial out on both and receive on T-Mo, then for a while I couldn't do anything on either, then I got a text message saying I could use my new phone and its been fine since. Hope this helps anyone with concerns.
