I'm not sure if the old sims will work with a new phone but I'm pretty sure that u can't transfer ur number from one SIM to another, unless they have a sim upgrade exception or something like that..

I have a Fido SIM card from like... ages ago... 5+ years? Something like that.
It works fine, doens't have enough space to store all my phone numebrs tho (I think it has like max 100 numbers limit?!)....
I'm hoping to switch to the Sony Ericsson Z600 soon, and wondering if I should get a new SIM card as well....
- Are there new SIM cards? If there is, how easy are they to obtain (i.e. do I have to hunt around, or go to any Fido kiosk?), and are they the usual $25?
- Are there any unusual 'serial numbers' or anything to denote these 'better' SIM cards? I have a brand new SIM card that's still connected to the plastic card it came on... Got this one back in ... 1999/2000...
The one I'm currently using has a long number on it, ending with "16K" on the last line. The unopened SIM I have ends with "ST32". Anyone know what that means?
The circuitry design also looks different..
How would one go about using a NEW SIM card anyway??? Would I just push it into the phone, turn it on, then call Fido CSR to activate it?? Just wonderin'...

your old SIM card cannot be reactivated. Your unused unopened unactivated card however, should still be fine since it hasn't been activated.
Your ST32 SIM Card may actually be preferable over the M32.a series because of the additional www.fido.ca on the second line. At most, depending on the series, your ST32 SIM Card may have double Fido.
Huh? I'm currently USING my "old" SIM (the one that's labelled 16k). I'm using it in my T28w. Are you saying that when I buy a new phone (ANY new phone??) that I can't just plunk it into the new phone?
And what is this "additional www.fido on the second line"???
And what's "double Fido"??
Huh?? Can someone plese explain?![]()

Why is there even a question as to why my old SIM won't work with newer phones?? I'm confused.Originally posted by harrytse

So, bottom line. If I were to purchase a brand new Z600 phone from say, MilkBoy here in the forums, what would I need to do to get it working on Fido?? Get a new SIM card from Fido? (tell them what?? I lost my old one?) Some how get them to activate my brand new unopened SIM card? (tell them what??)Originally posted by f_Enzo

hmm..ok.
dun worry your old sim will work in your z600, the only place where it might not work would be in the GAIT phones (nokia 6340)
I'm using my old sim in my T610, no problems. just low capacity.
also, if you get the new sim cards, on the phone it might show 2 "Fido" or "www.fido.ca". that's depending what phone it is.

K700i!!
T610 !!
On the screen, right now it says "Fido" on top.Originally posted by furball

With some new SIM, it will show "www.fido.ca" underneath "Fido", and some will have "Fido" appearing twice.
So, two additional questions....
1) My brand new, unopened, unused SIM, that has "ST32" written on it, only has the Fido logo on it, and that's it. What is this? The 'latest SIM'??
2) What do I get out of using the latest and greatest SIM??
3) HOW do I use this latest and greatest SIM? (i.e. how would I get Fido to activate this new SIM, and deactivate the old SIM?)
oops i presumed too much, i was under the impression that your current SIM in your T28 was defunct and deactivated.

1. not sure but i think m23 is newer.
2. not much. some of the newer sims have cons too. like if ur using a nokia, u can't save op logos and stuff.
but really, the only advantage is the larger capacity.
3. just call fido and ask them to do it.

ya the newest is either M32 or M32a, definately not ST32, the advantage of using the latest and greatest is that it'll work with almost any new phone and it has larger capacity, and u use it by just calling fido and telling them i want to activate a new line or whatever, or try asking them if they can transfer the number to ur new sim...
old sim cards are 16k, hold 100 phone entries.. they may or may not be compatible w/ newer handsets... ie: i've heard problems w/ the 7210 and the old 16k sims having problems...
the newer 32k sims hold 255 entries and will work w/ newer phones and older ones as well i believe...
GAIT phones use a different sim.. for the 6340i, it uses a G32 series sim...
the latest i've heard from new sims is being the M32a series which adds the ugly www.fido.ca under the fido logo...
one of the best in the old 16k sims is the 407 series since it's able to take op logos (covers up fido logo)
414 cannot take op logos... newer ones before the M32a i'm not too sure if they could or not...
there are some M32 before the 521 series that still only had 100 entries rather than the 255 standard entries found on the new ones
I had nothing but problems with my g/f's sim card in her Z600 (it was an M32, no .a) when using GPRS, no matter what I couldn't make it connect. Eventually we had to reassign her number to another SIM i had lying around (an ST32 like mine) and all is working well.
Not sure if the M32.a's have the same issue.
