I am in the market for a new phone, my T28w has pretty lived out its life, and Cingular will replace a S40 through insurance. I have heard bad things about that phone, and I've been wanting to get one of the newer phones on the market. Money is not that big of an issue, but that phone must be worth it (good reception, functionality, etc.).
I have been looking at several phones, but not really sure which one is worth more than the other. Phones I've been looking at include the T68, 8390, V60, and V66 (white edition). Seeing the phone, and playing through the menus gave me some impressions, but not being able to use it live, and hear the sound quality and reception doesn't help. I really won't consider the V70 since I am more on the practical side, and that phone shouts cosmetics more than anything. What do you guys think? I need some personal experiences, good and bad, which one of those phones have you had, or currently using, and what did you think of them?
Sorry for the lengthy post, thanks for all the suggestions.....
ill get ericsson t68m or sony ericsson t68i =]
The Siemens S-40... you either love it or hate it :-)
I love my S-40, it has great sound, better reception than my old Nokia, it looks cool, it's light, I love the blue display, etc -- I would definitly get it again
Disadvantages are: the old software is buggy (you can always upgrade for free from Siemens), some people don't like the menues, it DOES NOT HAVE GPRS :-(
From what I understand from the various discussions in various forums the Sony-Ericssons do pretty bad in reception... esp. if you are with Cingular and the network is bad. If the network is good this in not an issue
I hope this helps

T-mobile - more bang for the buck
Yea look at the other thread about reception.
My t61z gets good reception but I hear the t68 is not as good.
btw: if price is important to you go with the t61z for only $40 (well $-10 for me but thats b/c the salesman got confused on the rebate)
GO CANES!
My HoFo Feedback
Previous Phones: Sony Ericsson t61z, Ericsson t39m, Nokia 3395, Sony Ericsson t68i (adriatic blue), Motorola v60i [GSM], Ericsson r520m, Sony Ericsson t68i (artic blue), Motorola t720g, Sony Ericsson t306, Sony Ericsson t316, Motorola v400, Motorola Razr (Black)
I forgot to mention that I need a world phone, so it will have to be a dual or tri-band phone. Sorry about that....
Well, if you liked your T28 World, maybe you should go for the Ericsson T39 or R520. Both are great phones with world-wide GSM compatibility. I personally would recommend the R520, since it's probably the best phone Ericsson has ever made, but some people dislike it's large(r) candybar style. So, if you don't like the R520's size, maybe you should go with the T39 (especially if you like having a flip.) The T39 also has a much better flip than the T28 that is less prone to breaking.
Well, I was considering the T39 a little while back, but considering that Ericsson has pretty much stop making the phone, and a lot of people tell me that the T39 is very buggy, I hesistate to get that phone. I like my T28w, but I am ready for something new.
If you are considering T68 and 8390, why not get it from AT&T. I heard that have great deals because they have just started GSM in San Diego. Someone on the forum got 750 anytime min with $39.99 plan for 1 year. The coverage seems to be pretty good. I wouldn't mind switching carriers when AT&T comes to LA.![]()
BTW, AT&T has 1 month return policy. So you can actually try out the phone and see if the coverage is desirable.![]()

Even though I live in San Diego, I am in LA almost every weekend, and would need AT&T GSM coverage there. I spoke to a friend, and she said AT&T will have GSM in LA sometime in July? With VoiceStream coming as well, I think I might wait. But AT&T rate plan does not compare to Cingular's right now. I am narrowing my choices to V60 or T68i.
whoaaa ...t68i or V60 ?
weird ... if t68 is way better than v60 already, wat do you think about t68i ? LOL!
Well, you can just get the Siemens S46 in San Diego, CA when you are in L.A. you will utlize both TDMA / GSM. I live in Los Angeles, CA but visit San Diego, CA every other weekend.
I got the Multiband Expanded Local plan for $39.99 I get 400 anytime minutes, unlimited nights & weekends (starting at 8pm), long distance included, and for $7.99 1 meg of GPRS and .1 cents each additional K.
In Los Angeles, CA it is considered home coverage still. No roaming and the minutes just come out of my bucket.
Hmm... everybody I talk to keep saying the V60 is a better phone, they say that the V60 has better reception. Apparently, the only major difference between the T68 and T68i is the camera function, and the different colors of the phone and lights? Is that right?Originally posted by pinoy

t68i has a screen saver menu , u can also use pictures for caller iD. it depends on the location ...some says cingular doesnt have good coverage but to for me, coverage is pretty decent. no problems for me so far. also, t68i allows u to store 55 backgrounds. MMs, iMELODY,EZi text, etc ..although u can get it ( i hope ) with the MMS upgrade for t68m
