I'm a current Sprint user about to jump onto the T-mobile free web browsing for all bandwagon. Of course, when signing up for new contracts, Amazon always got some pretty cool phone deals.
I live in Seattle area. My home has bad reception for ALL carriers. So RF is extremely important to me. And second on my list is bluetooth capability cuz I want to surf the net occasionally on my ipaq.
I'm now torn between the Sony Ericsson t610 and Nokia 3650. Here are the criterias important to me:
1. good RF reception
2. good ear piece volume
3. good battery life
I liked the ear piece volume and tone better on my T610
The battery life on the T610 kills the 3650 especially if you do much with it.
BUT
there are few phones out there that can beat the expandibility of the S60 Nokia phones....but there are draw backs.....I personally chose the T610 over the 3650 I had but in the end, I now have a Z600.
where both complain of the T610's RF. Mobileburn updated the RF part of its review saying he stayed disappointed by the 610's RF.
Now, the 610 is sleek looking and the interface is pretty cool looking, and battery life is not the 3650's forte. Ear piece volume also goes to the 610.
On the other hand, camera is better on the 3650, (to me) it seemed a bit more responsive than the 610 and has an MMC slot so you can load it up like crazy. (I think the 610 has 2MB only!) 3650 also has a speakerphone, but it's not that loud.
Definitely go with the nokia 3650. The T610 cannot compare to a series 60 phone. Yes, the battery may be better but there is no way that RF is better on the T610.
so i guess i made it up....you know i'm far from the only person on this message board that says their t610 is beating 3650's and other good rf phones....
besides, most reveiws are done on early or preproduction phones and it is most peoples belief that se fixed the t610 rf issues somewhere along the way.
i would choose the t610, better bluetooth implementation, sleek-looking and smaller
it also has good RF (i never had any problems with mine), and better earpiece volume and good battery life...
actually, why not get the p800? it's really getting cheaper now, the cheapest i saw was $350 USD in the BST section...p800 is even better than 3650 and t610...

My 3650 kicked the 610's *** on rf.
My 3650's earpiece was much louder.
The battery life on the 610 was superior, but not by a huge margin.
Plus, I had a lot more freeze ups on the 610 than i've had on the 3650.
The camera on the 3650 is far better.
The size of the 610 is awesome.
The email program on the 610 is nice since it can check at intervals (the 3650 needs active mail to do this). The 3650 is superior with attachments (you can't open them on the 610).
My bias is with nokia, but not without a long history with both companies' phones. I've had a t68, t68i, t200, t610 and a 6310i, 6610, 3650, and have always found the nokia to be better at holding signals in the basement of my house and have louder earpieces. Steve really is the best reviewer I've found on the web for evaluating the issues you care about: http://www.arcx.com/sites/PhoneReviews.htm
I agree with most of the people here: The Nokia 3650 had better RF for me than the T610.
For years now I have been a loyal Ericsson (and now Sony Ericsson) user. I refused to purchase another brand of phone. That is, until I got a hold of a 3650.
A friend of mine had one and I played around with it. He was able to get a signal (and make/receive clear calls) when my phone didn't even register a connection. Also, the screen is easier to see in the sunlight.
The 3650 is a great phone with amazing expandability. The most impressive things (as far as customization is concerned) on the T610 are the ability to apply themes to the interface and the email client. Aside from that, you can play Mophun games and install Java applications. The 3650, on the other hand, is infinately expandable. And to avoid writing a book on this issue, you'll just have to use one. You'll be impressed.
I cannot imagine a T610 getting better reception than a 3650, but if they (the people who posted above) say they do, than they do. It is your decision.
all I'm saying is everyone is always like "yeah, the t610 sucks on rf, the 3650 beat it here and there" but no body does anything like this.....what firmware version was it? what build week was it? etc. I've not disputing that the T610 sucked at one point but the FACT is that not ALL T610's suck on RF and it seems that the people that more recently purchased one can not complain about the RF (except for the occasional person that thinks "bars" are the end all be all to an RF test).
I have posted pictures of my T610 holding signal and placing calls in a place where 2 3650's were unable to even find the network. You'll have to take my word on the 2 3650's since I didn't take pictures until I had my 2nd one. You can NOT deny that a T610 can beat a 3650 unless someone wants to step up and call me a lier by altering photos or something.
Now, moving on, yes the 3650 is more expandible but with that comes an additional risk....it's not exactly hard to jack a 3650 up and end up shipping it back to Nokia. I wouldn't personally recommend owning a 3650 without having a backup phone.
To the guy that said his T610 locked up way more than his 3650....I'll believe it when I see it, you probably had a defective phone if that was the case as I have NEVER had either my T610 or my Z600 lock up on me and I NEVER restart my phones, they stay on 24/7 and I'm always playing around with features, hooking up through BT, playing games, etc.
Anyway, I just think some opinions are kinda biased on here....I used to be a die hard Nokia fan....in fact, what was one of the reasons I switched to T-Mobile from Sprint....cause I wanted to get back to the Nokia phones I had back in the day....but once I had the 3650 and the T610.....let's just say I'm an SE fan now.
usafturtle, no one here is calling you a liar. Settle down!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and have seen different behavior from these phones. Let me just say this:
I have had great luck with my 3650 and very bad luck with my (well, I sold it; not mine anymore) T610. And being a fan of SE products, it hurts me to say that. (But not as bad as it hurt me to spend money on that piece of crap T610!)
I'm not accusing people of calling me a lier per say...but if someone wants to deny that there is a possibility that the new T610's can beat a 3650, then they need to confront the photos I've taken first.
I'll also point out that the Z600 beats the 3650...and there are even reviews that agree with that one.
Hopefully the T630 can shed the reputation left from the t68i, t300 and the early t610's.

And why should that matter? It goes to show that SE cannot consistantly produce a good product. Irregardless of firmware version and hardware revision it should have decent RF. IF and only IF this were the first phone SE built, then I could accept it. But they do not have a good history with even decent RF performance.
There is no "real" data on the performance of the SE RF vs. the 3650. I have both phones and can tell you from your criteria they are both very close. The only way to answer the RF issue once and for all is in an RF lab with both phones. I have both phones and have had each outperform the other on various days along the same route. There are too many atmospheric issues to be definitive in the real world. My anecdotal experience with both phones does indicate that the 3650 is less affected by the low-in-the-car-syndrome.
What I mean is that if you want to keep your phone on you belt in the car the SE *seems* to take a bigger RF recpetion hit than the 3650. However when I have my SE t616 in the holder on the windshield it *seems* to work as good and sometimes better than the 3650.
Like I said both are great phones. One thing to consider in the BT implementation. The 3650 only supports the Hands-Free Profile. So you will be more limited in the BT headsets that you can use. On the other hand the 3650 supports memory card so if you will be using the camera much you will like that feature over the limited SE memory.
