Unlock Loophole, WILL THIS WORK??

My Mom has a T-mobile account that expires the end of january. Can I call up T-Mobile(US) Give them my mom's account, name, number, and then tell them She bought an ATT T616, but wants it to be unlocked so it can be on T-mobile, and them have them give me the unlock codes. Will this work?? Thanks in Advance

T-Mobile can't unlock ATT phones. ATT can only unlock ATT phones. There is a loophole to this - get it unlocked by someone with the hardware!

T-Mobile will unlock the phone you have with them (they will unlock any phone you bought from them if you are currently on a plan). Just ask them for an unlock code

I sure T-Mobile can get you the code, as they usually get it from SE. It's worth a try. Or you can just buy the cable for $15 and do it yourself.

So that he can use it on their network...hey its more money for them. Im sure you can find some T-Mobile sore that has an unlocker...or just ask T-Mobile what they can do, they are T-Mobile for christ sake! If i can buy an unlocked on eBay im sure T-Mobile has the means to unlock a T616!

Normally, they will only talk to a person who is listed as the responsible party on the account, not just anyone who calls up. Your Mom will need to make the call and the request. IF they will even do this for a phone they don't carry.

the answer is NO

Carries don't give out unlocking numbers nor does Sony Ericsson have authorization to give them out.

They must be authorized by the provider themselves.

You can get Cingular from T-Mobile, because T-Mobile calls up Cingular and gets it so you don't have to do the calling.

But AT&T is a stiff and won't unlock at all. You have to do a force/flash unlock.

I tried abs they were willing to do it(EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE), yet they said they don't have the codes for ATT

True, but about 15 minutes later my friend and I were talking about phones, and he brought up how he has a T28 cable, and his father has SE Fighter! So, it seems i get a firmware Upgrade AND a unlock. YAY

To clear up whether or not T-Mobile can give out unlock codes for other carriers, the answer is no. T-Mobile has a database of unlock codes for only their phones. They have no way of getting an AT&T unlock code.
