    Cadillac Deville emergency brake release

    So I'm driving around the other day in a 2000 Cadillac Deville. So I go to park it, set the emergency brake, come back and attempt to look for a e-brake release lever. Well guess what, no release lever. So I figured alright maybe its one of those push to release emergency brake pedals, YEAH RIGHT! It turns out this car automatically dis-engages the emergency brake when you shift it into gear (steering column shifter). I'm quite prudent with most cars but this one was a real stumper. Who would've thought to shift the car into "D"(rive) with that !BRAKE! light illuminated. Luckily, the person whos car it was told me how to dis-engage it, but everyone else I asked seemed to have been unaware of anything of this sort. Is anyone familiar with such a feature and if so which other cars have it? Thanks

    That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard.

    But then, how exactly are you going to use the e-brake on the road when you need to stop... or perhaps do a 360?

    A Caddy is not what you would call a sports car.

    Schmohey - you bring up such a great point! Who wants to place bets on whether the emergency brake will stay engaged or just spring back when depressed while the car is in gear? I didn't try this but I will be sure to next time i'm in the car, although I don't know if it would screw with the automatic e-brake release system.

    Imagine when the car gets old... and it brakes for no reason on the road.

    @Joel930 - Try it!

    @eimajuno - It could compete with those ricers you know?

    Be my guest, go look on ebay and see if there is any e-brake release lever (its usually toward the far left part of the lower dash - right around where your left knee would be located), or better yet, stop by a Cadillac dealer and go try it out for yourself.
