Why take either? For 50k I could think of many cars I would take over those two. One hobby Lada Niva for sure though

y buy a USED porsche with old-school technology when $50k can get u a new car?

Correct, drag limited top speed is close to 200, possibly a little over, but this would require taller gears and possibly more power. All German cars are governed to 155 mph, it can be reporogrammed, but no one has any business going faster than 155 anywhere but on a drag strip/track anyway.

I'm all for higher speed limits, but not THAT high.

BTW, a stock 996 carerra WILL NOT go 200mph, that is a very exclusive club of cars which have the frame,suspension, lights, transmission, brakes, engine and aerodynamics to do the "double ton". You really need to have the whole package or else you're looking to get killed. A Mclaren F1 (BMW engined) will only do 214 or so, and that car is considerably more on edge than a 996.
