BUT after snooping around and copying a midi several places, if you download it (with bitPIM) to
    /user/sound/ringer/
it WILL work. Your ringer will show up ALPHABETIZED in your list of regular ring tones.

This was done using a USB cable and BITPIM. It seems to work in a limited way with GAGIN, with the higher comm port patch, but it can't actually see any files. Bitpim works much better.

    Hope this was helpful!
Hey, thanks so much for posting this! I finally figured out how to download the ringers because of this!

    mp3 ringers only ring ONCE

OK, I finally managed to upload some mp3 ringers to my Kyocera Slider SE47 (Verizon). I used Bitpim .7 test 9 for Windows. The Mac version really doesn't work, at least I had no luck with it.

Apparently the only directory on the phone that seems usable to put ringers in is the user/sounds/ringers. I uploaded some small mp3 in the format that has been explained 16kHz/24kbps/mono. The mp3 ringers only ring once when my phone is called. Perhaps midi files repeat as a ringer as they should until the call is answered. Anyone have any insight to this phenomenon/problem?

Also, question for anyone...the MySounds folder, what the hell are those sounds for? I can't assign them or delete them. ANd there are (empty) slots, but can't seem to figure out what to do with them or how to get sounds in that section.

    Unhappy Slider cable won't connect

I'm having a problem with the cable and my GF's slider phone. I have my LG VX-6000 hooked up with BitPim and it works fine but when I try all the steps listed in the posts it doesn't recognize her phone. Could it be because my phone is the main phone for BitPim? Should I try installing BitPim on another computer so her phone is the default phone on that?
    Thanks.
    Tim

So you're probably encoding at 128kbps instead of 24kbps. 128kbps MP3 files won't play on your Slider. You need to figure out how to make your encoder produce MP3's at lower bitrates. They *must* be encoded at 24kbps, no more and no less, to play.
I am using the audacity program to create mp3's. I am taking a section about 30 seconds worth, spliting the tracks into 2 making one mono, closing the other one, Making that track 24 bit, making that same track 16000 hz , speeding up the track by 175% as mentioned in this thread, exporting as mp3 format using the lame dll file in its own directory (because I couldnt get into the windows system directory, I did try though)and my files end up being right around 500 k. I have done this multiple times and am still having the same problem. I read this post and really don't understand how I am creating these files at that much higher bitrate (though it seems like that is what is occurring). If someone could just help me out here I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Check the output settings on Audacity. I did the same thing until I realized that the program was saving the newly created file at 128 bits instead of 24. Click on File>Preferences>File Formats, and look at the MP3 Export Setup box towards the bottom. Set that to 24 and you should be good to go.

    to you ozien.......

i want to thank you for taking the time and effort for that HOW2 primer. i'm one of those diehard 98SE users with the SE47 slider and had fun making custom mp3's incl buzz lightyear from toy story.
if you ever get around to playing with the onboard firmware, spec. custom shortcuts, i would love to hotkey into the network/active line area.

    thanx again..............

    Message Alert Sounds

Has anyone had any luck finding where the message alerts go? That's the sound I really want to change, but I can't find where in the file system those are located. Thanks!
Just because it's never been done doesn't mean you can't do it.

    delete ringtones

After figuring how to add ringtones to my Slider phone by using Bitpim, I now want to delete some duplicate ringers from my phone. Could I just use the Kyocera Phone Desktop to overwrite the ringers. I tried to right click and select Delete using Bitpim but it didn't delete the ringer. Any tips would be appreciated.

Yes, it works on the Verizon Slider. I've done it. You have to follow the instructions which are in this forum in detail.

    3 items however:
1- I managed to upload mp3 files but they only play once. So unless they are long, it doesn't really make for a good ringer.
2- I was not able to upload midi files contrary to what other in this forum have said that you can.
3- Uploading files to the user/sounds folder seems to be the only place that the phone will recognize sounds. Uploading to the slidesnds folder arent recognized

    Phone Cable

Radio Shack sells a $21 Kyocera USB cable... has anyone tried these cables out?

Also, anyone else tried the Mac OSX version of BitPim with a Slider and had success? I don't have the Slider yet, and I have access to both a Mac and PC, so it's no biggie if I have to do it from the office, but I was just curious.

I'm a musician, so I'm really looking forward to composing my own ringtones :D
