So Nikecar... What you think about this??? Is it just a bluff or are you going to believe me now... Voda takes AWE... Do we see a bit for Cingular within the year after they get AWE? Hmmm.....

nice find...The more I hear about Vodaphone, the more I like. Their agressive and accept nothing less than being the best..I hope thats the case anyways. I hope they are industry leading in paying their employees too cause I've heard just the opposite for Cingular.

Here's another one, from the Sunday times, where they talk of just buying the whole of Verizon as another option.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...993012,00.html

Smith Barney is among those who believe that Vodafone should ignore AT&TW and instead bid for Verizon, whose growth is threatened by the decline of its fixed-line business. But that could cost in excess of $100 billion.

The more I research Vodafone's wireless service acqusitions and management around the globe, the more I accept them entering the United States. They are what the United States needs right now, and for the future.

One thing that is the most important concept in their acquisition concepts, which I noticed in the " Telegraph " article was from this quote :

" On the other hand, AT&T Wireless would require substantial investment in its network to bring it up to the standard expected by Vodafone. "

Vodafone has a reputation for accepting nothing but the BEST wireless service quality there is.

Now someone sees my idea... Substantial investment could mean more than just buildout, like AQUISITION of network coverage.

Additionally as I have said. If Verizon has to buy Voda out, it kills Verizon's Ev-Do and Network expansion. $20bn is a lot of money...

In the long run, what does this mean for us USA AT&T Wireless customers if a UK company buys them out? I can see Cingular being an advantage since they already have a decent GSM coverage here, combined w/ AT&T makes it even bigger. With Vodafone, AT&T Wireless will still have the same coverage as they do now. I've read some of the above posts, and Vodafone seems to be a very good company. Im just wondering how they will improve things

Here is why I think Vodafone will be good. The coverage area may take some time to build up but, Vodfone networks are second to none when it comes to implementation. Vodafone would beef up the existing network to the same standards as those in Europe.

well vodafone could probably go on a shopping spree and buy out all the little regional carriers that are operating in areas where AT&T has no licences or just buy out Cingular, although I doubt that the baby bells would sell, since the # of land line accounts is on a steady decrease

Bull. Vodafone's Australia network is notoriously bad

And no amount of money can fix AT&T's network (let alone the money one has after a $40 billion buyout). The spectrum isn't there to make it a world-class network. AT&T's TDMA service was nice, but in most places in the East it was dependent on free TDMA cellular roaming from Cingular--which I'm sure they'd be happy to deny AT&T/Voda now.

Looks at the Cingular/T-Mobile network in CA. In just about 1 years time they turned that network from one of the worst into one of the best and it is a GSM 1900 network. There is nothing that could stop Vodafone from doing the same and they have the deep pockets to do it. They have made much more costly aquisitions in the past; buying AT&T will not break the bank and set them back.
which I'm sure they'd be happy to deny AT&T/Voda now.
Roaming revenue is still roaming revenue. As the old saying goes, Cingular wouldn't cut off its nose to spite its face.

While I personally think that a Cingular/AT&T merger would be the best thing, Vodafone buying AT&T would also a great thing. I really believe that if Vodafone takes control, we will see AT&T's GSM network improve drastically (not overnight though). I have more confidence in Vodafone management than I do Cingular.

In italy i have vodafone It and customers (like me) are used to wait usually up to 5 (max) minutes during the day to talk to an operator and maybe 10-15 minutes if you calling around midnight...
But usually they pick up imediately ...
Signal coveres 97% of the territory and 95% of the population...
Their is an Excelent (cheap) prepayed system
Vodafone Live provides excellent internet services (to preview it go to wap.vizzavi.co.uk ..)
This is how it is in italy, but i believe it is almost like this, maybe a little better or worse, in the other countries were vodafone operates.
For example the business men that pick vodafone because they know that they will get good service in many countries so they need to fix up ATT to live up to the expectation

    these are my opinions....

Hope cingular doesn't buy att because it irritates me that their coverage maps display information that is not always true...
