Just got a flyer with my latest bill.
Beginning August 1, 2002 you will incur a charge for busy or unconnected calls if you do not end the call within 30 seconds!!
Sucks overall but think about it.
They give you 20 days to cancel service WITHOUT THE CANCELLATION FEE if you do not want to accept the changes.
That's the out for all you who want to cancel your service.
FYI - received for TDMA...don't know about GSM

I'll try to do it asap...don't know if I can get it done tonight, but I'll try.
What market area are you in? This could certainly be the answer to my problems. (See high buildings in chicago post)
Thanks,
The BigO
I should mention this is in the chicago market.
I received this in my TDMA bill earlier this week. I don't know if GSM has the same deal going.
My apologies about the pic...my scanner is not working so this is a DV camcorder image.
GSM already has this, they slipped this change in with the night and weekend change
What does that mean? "you will incur a charge"? What charge? They will just charge you air time, right? Not an extra charge.....?Originally posted by Soko

correct...not an extra charge, unless you're roaming/over your minutes. it's just like a one minute call.
I personally think that's ********. They already charge you from when you push send instead of when you start talking. Now they want to charge you even if you never connect to the other party! In a couple of months they'll push nights to 10pm and charge you from when you push the first digit of a phone number.
Soko, I'm on AT&T in the Chicago market too. I'll be getting my bill in a few days, I guess I'll see the same info as what you saw.
Hmmm...that does give me the option of cancelling out and why would I want to? Because Verizon has excellent coverage in Chicago too and I am very interested in the the America's Choice (family plan).
Besides, AT&T won't let me keep my 1000 promo N/W minutes if I migrated from their tdma One Rate to the Multi-band One Rate plan. The Multi-band One Rate plan just doesn't seem to be worth it at $69.98 for 450 anytime minutes with 1000 N/W minutes ($59.99 + $9.99 for N/W minutes). And they're charging $14.99 for 500 mobile-to-mobile minutes if you want to add that.
Verizon's large AC national network would suit just fine and has a much bigger footprint then AT&T's national footprint. And on the family plan you get 4000 N/W minutes plus 250 m-to-m minutes. Plus, $5 more will net you Unlimited N/W minutes and Unlimited N/W mobile web. I've been hearing a lot of good reviews regarding Verizon's AC plan and especially their CDMA service in Chicagoland.
Hmmm...I'm still in the deciding stage....
By the way, how do you like the AT&T GSM service in Chicagoland?

Well, you don't have to worry about the 1000 NW minutes because AT&T will give you 3000 on a 1-year and unlimited on a 2-year contract. Also, I believe on Multi-band plans $49.99 and up they are giving 300 additional anytime minutes with a 2-year contract. I don't know about the mobile-to-mobile but I think they maybe giving 500 minutes for free (maybe more), but not sure on that one.Originally posted by Kenster

So for $59.99 you'd have 750 anytime, unlimited NW and maybe the 500 m-to-m. All with a 2-year contract. I don't think the 300 additional anytime promo is on their website, but the NW minutes should be. Probably should contact your local store to see exactly what you can get.
Hope this helps!
opps!
I guess you can't get the promo anytime minutes with the Digital one rate plan, only the expanded local plans. I think you still can get the NW minutes though.
Jay, I think you're wrong. The promo additional minutes you've been hearing about only applies to the GSM or Multi-band Local plans...they do not apply to the Multi-band National nor One Rate plans.
Furthermore, you are also wrong about the 3000 and Unlimited N/W promo minutes. These DO NOT apply to the Multi-band One Rate plan. If you read the "Specials" on the webpage or speak with the GSM CS rep, you'll find that there are no promos for the Multi-band One Rate plan. If indeed they were offering 3000 N/W minutes, the CS rep would've offered it to me when I spoke with them!
Now of course, the One Rate - No Roaming charge plan is more extensive than Verizon's AC plan but I think the the AC digital footprint is still considerably large and would be more than adequate. On the other hand, AT&T's National Plan does offer the promo N/W minutes but their digital footprint just wouldn't be adequate enough for me.
GSM is great for this early of a stage. My footprint is about the same as TDMA. Going downtown along 290 I get almost perfect signal all the way. They finally got smart and added great coverage along the tollways.
Overall the call quality is much better. When my call is connected well I have a hard time telling the other person is there! Absolutely NO static or buzz. Additional abilities of the phone and the network not to mention the sim card makes it worth while. Like I said it's ok now and ATTGSM is just starting out!
I do notice that indoor signal is not as good. I think that's partly because the T68 isn't great compared to the 3360/90. Hopefully 850mhz will help that.
Overall a well worth it experience.
Yeah, I read the other post after I posted in this one. Sorry Kenster.
