Very cool. Did he happen to expound on the chance of it ever becoming a reality in the future?

Maybe they can re-program the Glenayre to emit that bad boy on a sub-by-sub basis rather than an entire market.

Had a brief convo about why T-Mo doesn't do MWI, but he really didn't know too much it seemed. Got an email back from Customer service telling me they turned off SMS notification (which they apparently haven't anyway).

Is anyone familiar with this "nowsms" software?

I assume this configuration setting that they show only turns the MWI on or off your phone only if your provider is utilizing it?

I got the link to this software from over at the FIDO forum after reading a thread about how someones P800 mysteriously starting showing the reel.

Just out of curiosity Galfert, did you ask Howard if it was ok to include his website in your letter?? Remember this is a place where we can talk about everything and we have T-Mobile employees who may share info that we appreciate. I don't think it was a good idea including the website link.

As for the situation, since I have only really used T-Mobile for over 4 years and have gotten used to the sms message, what is the advantage of having a voicemail icon? Is the difference really that much?? I personally like the sms and hopefully if your cause is justified, I hope they don't take the sms away. Sometimes things pan out to be an either/or.but not both situation and think of how many unhappy people there will be out there if they just completely change it.

Not to be rude, but did you read galfert's letter on the first page ? It pretty much describes the advantages of having a MWI vs a SMS. I personally don't see why you think there is an advantage of having a SMS instead of a MWI. Can you please describe the advantages ?

Here is the latest I got back from T-Mobile. After going around in circles getting the same canned response, they finally answered my original e-mail:
We apologize for any misleading or confusing information that you have received thus far regarding T-Mobile's voice mail system. We understand that you would like more information on out MWI system. At this time, as you are well aware, T-Mobile notifies its customers that they have a new voice mail message by an SMS message sent to the phone from 123. Although other carriers, such as Cingular and AT&T have a different method of notification, such as activating the reel on particular phone models, unfortunately, T-Mobile does not have this capability. This is due to limitations with the voice mail systems that we use. Older Powertel customers will have this capability because of the type of voice mail system they run on. In fact, new customers in former Powertel markets do not have this capability.

Although we cannot satisfy your situation at this point in time by offering this, we have forwarded your request to our development team for review. We are constantly looking for new ways to improve the customer experience.

If you have any other comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at anytime.

    Thank you for choosing T-Mobile.

Is this true? Must be something new? Are they loading new subs on Glenayre now?

I can see why that they would want new subscribers to be on the Glenayre since that is the VM platform they've decided to standardize on. No use on putting them on the Centigram/SS8 system if they don't have to. Nevertheless, like I said before, I'd bet the main reason they haven't moved the former powertel users to the Glenayre is becuase it is not configured to send the MWI.

I am still wondering if the lack of MWI is truely "due to limitations with the voice mail systems that we use" or is it just that they are idiots and can't make it work. There's no way Glenayre can on the one hand be one of the leading large scale VM system vendors in the world and on the other hand not provide this basic functionality in their systems. Something else is behind this.

Well, I responded with a thank you and commented that I know of a couple of people in the Powertel market that just activated and have the MWI. Needless to say, I think they are listening.
    Thank you for your reply.

We understand your frustration with this issue. We have contacted our developers to research this situation further. It was our understanding that all Powertel market customers would not be activated on the new voice mail platform that does not offer this capability. Thank you for providing this information.

If you have any other comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at anytime.

    Thank you for choosing T-Mobile.

No I didn't ask Howard (and this is relevant how?... As a mere polite formality in your opinion? I don’t share your opinion where by Howard needed to be asked anything. On the contrary I though it would be rude and self absorbed if I did bother him with such pettiness). If I saw Howard posting more messages around here and showing his involvment then I might have been more inclined to having asked him. But since I don't see him ever posting around here it leads me to belive that he doesn't have the time. Pehaps he is more involved in the underworking of this site. This isn't a rip on Howard by any means, I respect him and I appreciate all that he does do. But hey your opinion is just that. If it makes you feel better I did contemplate asking Howard. Besides I don't think this forum is such a big secret where by T-Mobile does not know of its existence. And if I'm wrong and T-Mobile doesn't know about it then I think it would do us much good if T-Mobile top execs did come in here and read some threads every now and then and learn something from us. That would mean that they are listening to us!...and that they care! (of course listening doesn't automatically lead to doing what we ask in here, but they might).

As for the T-Mobile employees comment: I don't see how this matters either. Those T-Mobile employees are posting in here knowing very well that more than likely T-Mobile knows of the existence of this forum. Besides their identities are hidden (somewhat). It would take much legal involvement to trace the IP address and identity of a certain poster. I don't think anything that has ever been said here by T-Mobile employees carries that much weight to warrant such an effort by T-Mobile. Have you ever checked out the Yahoo finance forums in the company stocks section? There is much insider knowledge to be learned from company employees in those forums for stock market traders. I've yet to hear about any company taking any actions to find out the identity of the Yahoo finance forum posters. I'm not saying it hasn't happened, I'm just saying that the information leaks are abundant and disclosing to any company where online forum discussions take place between their employees and outsiders does not curb these leaks. And to restate what I said in the last paragraph, I think it would do everyone much good if T-Mobile executives poked their head in here every now and then.

And one more thing. There was a window of opportunity when I first drafted the letter. I asked forum members to comment on it before I sent it to T-Mobile (this letter was first posted in another thread). Then I started this thread and again I welcomed commentary before I actually sent it.

PS - I would have posted the following information in the "poll thread" but it was mysteriosly deleted. Why was the "poll thread" deleted? Last I saw today the tally was 97 for MWI, 15 against, and about 9 indifferent. That tells you something.
Here is the link for that thread ...see ...it's gone: http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...hreadid=317078

Does anyone know why the very useful thread that had the poll of users that wanted MWI or SMS for vm notification disappear ? Why was it deleted ? Did the moderator do this ? Why ? This was something I think we all found useful and I'm sure it would have helped the T-Mobile execs gauge what their customers want. (At least we can hope they might look at this forum). Can the moderator please explain ? Thanks

Someone also deleted the thread I started this morning asking why the Poll thread was deleted and why censorship is taking place on this forum. I bet Howard doesn't know about this and he needs to be alerted on what is happening. Please voice you opinion and email him at howard@howardchui.com

Yeah, where the hell did my poll go? Last I checked, the majority of people wanted the MWI.
