What is Rogers' GSM coverage like in smaller cities like Peterborough or Belleville or Orillia? Is analogue available if you're somewhere like Rice Lake or Sharbot Lake?
My brother has a C333 and my friend has a T720 (both with Rogers). Does it matter which type of phone you have, or will both work equally well?
I can't answer the first part of your question but i think i can the second.
Yes, the type of phone that you have will dictate how well your coverage is. First of all, if your phone supports 850, it makes a difference right there, since your phone as another frequency that it could rely on to get signal
Second of all, some phones are simply not as great RF performers when compared to others, such as the C333.

Even though the C333 is a pretty pathetic phone overall, one of its problems IS NOT poor RF sensitivity. It's biggest performance problem is dealing with network issues such as handoffs and multipath. If you are just looking for a phone that can pull in a weak signal while in a stationary location, you can do far worse than the C333.
Coverage in Peterborough and Belleville is excellent on GSM. Inside the Quinte Mall (Belleville) I can pull a signal in almost any store with the arrival of 850. Now in regards to rice lake... the North side of the lake has good coverage (coming from Ptbo) but the Bewdley side as well as parts of the South side of the lake are a problem. In Bewdley you are lucky if you can get a bar. This is also the same with Bell and Telus as well. Bell is attempting to put up a Tower near Highway 28 but the locals are putting up a big fuss. On Highway 28 midway between Peterborough and Port Hope is a known dead or almost dead zone.
i've been very impressed with Rogers GSM coverage to tell you the honest truth.
I used to be of the "tdma is better" mindset, but didn't care because I wanted the bluetooth toys and GSM mad seeg fun times, but in all honesty I can confidently say that GSM is light years better then TDMA was.

Steves right about the C333. At least that's my experience with it anyways.
Hi all. I'll try to keep this short. I'm in London Ontario and way back in 1994 I started with Bell Mobility and stayed with them for a few years...kinda took good reception for granted. I switched to Cantel (Rogers now) at the time because they had a larger local calling area. Well it didn't take too long before I realized that the quality wasn't that great and calls would just drop. I started calling them Can'tell because everyone I talked to kept saying, what? So I went back to Bell Mobility (CDMA) and the coverage and clarity didn't even compare. I heard how Rogers signal was so much better now with GSM and with new and improved towers, so I thought I'd give them a try again (and get a fancy new phone). I have a V600 now, got it a week ago and in some places (not too many) the signal is better than my bell phone. All the dealers at Rogers said how enhanced the towers are now...ya right. I was on Warncliffe and Baseline, accessing my voice mail and the system didn't recognize my key strokes for the password - I tried two times and it didn't recognize them. I checked the phone and I typed in the right password. I had the same problem on the 402 when I was with Can'tell back in the mid 90's. I never had that problem with Bell. Tonight I was at Highbury and Huron talking on the phone and just like the good old days, they kept saying, "what? You're breaking up" Again, I never had that problem with Bell. I didn't intend to go on a rant, but man, this is frustrating. Has anyone else experienced things like I've described?
On a less whiny note, this forum is great and has been very helpful in getting the WAP settings correct for the browser to work on the V600. For some reason the settings on the Rogers support page are wrong.
from what I am aware of, the network is pretty decent in london. I never hear any complaints about it anyway, and it is 850 ready. as far as the voicemail problem goes, just call in and get someone to reset the password, maybe it got changed, maybe corrupt data, who knows...
can anyone else confirm the network in london?
can you give specific intersections where it seems to be lacking?
Hey there. The passwrod is okay, it works, just had trouble on warncliffe and Baseline. The other intersection I had problems was at Highbury and Huron. Today I went to Burlington and my friends phone is with bell... there were many spots along the 401/QEW/403 where the bell phone signal was full while my signal was weak.

the only thing I can think of is that you ahve the wrong VM # stored in your phone.. rogers has 2 for some reason..
I was experiencing the same issue as you, but I was in strong signal areas and it wouldn't take. it kept telling me "that user is invalid"... so I called up rogers and they did a resend to switch... low and behold my VM access # changed from 416-274-2817 to 416-358-1549
ALSO, make sure you don't have DTMF tones set to off, or it'll never take as the phone won't send touch tones
wow I'm pretty surprised you're having such luck with your reception. I live right downtown London and I would say my reception is excellent. I don't remember the last time I've had a call drop, even the digital garble is rare these days.
I've always had good reception out toward baseline Rd. There's a tower on Wharncliff just about 1-2km past basebase line on the left hand side, so it's strange you are getting bad reception in that area.
Since 850 I've had no problems anywhere in London, its really made a big difference in the malls here. Previously with 1900 coverage in Masonville and White Oaks was pretty brutal and you would get no signal in some parts.
The one thing I noticed with 850 is even if you have 1 or 2 bars you can still make a call and it sounds clear, this was FIDO's biggest strength on their network and now we can do it too!!

850!!!
How long ago did you test 1900 MHz in Masonville and Whiteoaks? I ask this because Rogers previously didn't have sites near to these malls, and now they do. They also might have installed repeaters inside the malls to improve indoor coverage.
The only way to determine if 850 MHz is truly responsible for the improvements that you have seen is to take a 1900-only phone in there and see what sort of service it gets RIGHT NOW.
