When I contacted 1800ERICSSON a week or two ago the referred me to the "upgrade center" and gave me the standard line about the T226 being a gift from ATTWS and to use my T68i for bluetooth or buy a T616 retail. Can you provide more details about what you may have said to "motivate" them to do this?

Do you have to return the "free" T226 or your old T68?

SonyEricsson reps are just slow to learn what's up.
It's taken care of. You will have to return the 226 but the t68 is yours. You can speak to a supervisor if need be, but if you can explain what bluetooth is and what you use if for, as well as mention the int'l roaming and NOT wanting to change phones every time you want to use your wireless hset, then they are supposed to replace the 226 with a 616.

Not trying to bring back a dead thread, but ...

I said I would update this thread if I got a response.

After sending a letter overnight to ATTWS about 2 1/2 weeks ago I just got a call from a very nice ATTWS employee. She informed me that I would have two new T616's by Wednesday with no extention to my contract. The offer of the T616's was exactly the same as the T226 offer, no strings attached. All I needed to do was to return the two T226s. Of course I have not received the T226s yet but she said that was okay and that I should return them with the supplied return labels when they arrive. She understood the issues I had with Bluetooth devices and knew I would be happy with the T616s. I thanked her and she verified my address and the converation was over.

    I am much happier now.

BTW - In my letter the only thing I asked for was that there be no extention to my contract, I even suggested that I would pay the difference between the T226 and T616. I was really not suprised to see that they will just swap the T226 for the T616 with the same conditions.

Another data point: I called the rebate number (+1 866 500 3821) and told them I'd received the T226 but one of the main reasons I went with the T68i originally was for the bluetooth connectivity for a wireless headset, calendar and addressbook synchronization, and data connectivity that the 226 was pretty useless to me.

I asked if they had any other phones available, and he said he could get a 616 to me instead. He had some problems looking up my number, and while on hold we got disconnected. When I called back, the rep I spoke to found my information and said he'd forward the request on to his supervisor, and to check back in 3-4 weeks.

I'll update here if I get the phone or any other news.

Got a new T616 (shipped via FedEx) yesterday. Works just fine, nice phone. I was told 3-4 weeks, but I received it in about one week.

There was no other accompanying documention or requests to send the T226 back, though I do suspect they'll want it at some point.

I called the rebate number a few weeks ago, when the T226 phones first came in. At that time they told me to just consider those phones a gift, but that there was nothing else they could do for me. So I just called again this morning after seeing that other peple have had success. The guy told me to send the T226 phones back, using the labels provided and he would set me up for processing to recieve 2 T616 phones. Thanks a lot to eveyone else that posted their success stories here.

I thought I'd chime in and say that I had called the rebate number to get put on the T616 request form list, more than 3 weeks ago. Today I just received a phone, but to my surprise I got a second T226.
So I called the rebate number again to find out why I got another T226. All the rep could tell me was that my case would get forwarded to their supervisor for review and to call back early next week.
Hopefully those who've been promised T616's won't end up another T226.
Needless to say I am not very happy at this latest development.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased that AT&T/SE sent me a free phone in the first place. But I do wish they had given us a choice, from the beginning, between a free T226 or an extra discount on another phone in their line up.
I will wait to see what happens early next week and post an update.

If you want international roaming won't a T610 (with 900 band) better? That would leave you without 850 band in the states though.

Nthach: i used my T226 for a bit, can i still call the number?

I don't see why not. Especially if you noticed a difference in reception with the T226 over the T68i.
I noticed a difference where I live in NYC, but hated swapping out the SIM all the time. So I don't even bother anymore and just use the T68i all the time.

I really like the new K700 and if I don't get any resolution with this. I'll buy one of those when they come out and probably move to T-Mobile. Their signal is much stronger where I live.

I just got off the phone with a SE rep .. and asked them if they have any other phone with bluetooth other that T226 they sent me. He said sure, no problem, just send us back the T226 in the provided envelope, and I am going to put a request for T616 for you now, which I should recieve very soon.
That was very easy !! I remember calling about it a month ago, and they said no way in hell !! so I gave up ..
    Thanks guys ..
The question is ... should I even bother returning the T226 !! do they really track who returned it and who didn't !! There is really no way for them to tell that the T226 was mailed from me !!
even if I keep it, I don't have to ebay it for $50 !!
