    Nokia 3100 PUK Code?

I recently picked up a Nokia 3100 phone and while trying to set it up so it would lock when the phone was turned on, it asked for my sim code. I tried 2 codes which I thought could be defaults which locked my phone and it's now asking for a PUK code. I'm with cellular one and called them, they're clueless. Does anyone know what the default PUK code is for a Nokia 3100?

    Thanks-
    Justin

Welcome to the forums, the PUK code is unique to each SIM and is not assigned a default number. The Personal Unblocking code is the last way to clear a PIN block. A PIN block occurs when you enter the PIN wrong 3 times in a row. The PUK code is stored on the SIM and is checked when you enter it manually after getting it from your provider.

You have 10 chances to enter it correctly, after the 10th try, the SIM card is permanently blocked. Is your 3100 directly from Cellular One?

He's right, the only way to get the PUK code is to ring up the network but the sim card has to be registered in your name and address otherwise they won't give it to you. You can still use the phone with another sim card though.

No, I don't believe so since normally you'll find an entry under Call Logs as well but the icon refers to that entry.

That's exactly what I stated in the my 1st post. Some providers like Vodafone UK have an automated service through their CS system where you enter your phone number and get the PUK code automatically from the system 24 hrs/day.

Same thing happened to me the first time I tried to set up PIN Request on my 3595. When I called my provider for the PUK, I asked if I should write it down in case it happened again. I was told no, because the PUK changes and it would be different every time I called. In fact she even generated two numbers, just in case I had the same problem while I was on the phone with her.

This leads me to believe that what is stored on the SIM is not the actual code, but something else, like maybe a decryption key.

That could be but generally every time I got a SIM card here in Germany, the PUK1 and PUK2 was the same since they were included with the PIN1 and PIN2 documentation.

Very simple, contact the provider whose SIM card you're using. They're the only ones who have access to the PUK codes.

You're welcome, most of the time that step will work for most providers.

Unfortunately, they're only the ones who can give it to you if you bought the phone from them. A PUK code is SIM dependent.
