Advice on getting a good plan as a new Sprint Customer

I have read about the great retention plans that many of you have gotten but when I tried to switch my service from Cingular, the CSR's were adamant that the published plans were the best that they could do for new subscribers (I tried 3 different times and called the retention department). Does anyone know if it is possible to be a new customer and get a better plan than what is standard? I have used Cingular for several years now and think that Sprint would want to convert me. Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Possible new Sprint customer

I undertand that retention plans are for existing customers...My question is whether anyone has any experience/advice in negotiating a better deal than the published rates for new customers.

Staying with Cingular is not really an option for me as their service is oversubscribed in the San Francisco area, and my clients have a difficult time reaching me.

Well, you're going to have to actually sign up for the service first. Since you have 14 days to cancel, that's your window to try to work something out. The rule for Sprint is that you must be a customer for between 60 days and 6 months, according to a manager I spoke to.

But, if you state your case well enough, they can pull some strings. I called in for a friend of mine who had just signed up for the $29.99 plan. Mention dropped calls if you experience any, other providers' plans...although the CSR wouldn't budge, I asked to speak to her manager, and after some further discussion she agreed to put my friend on the retention plan (500 anytime for $35.99) starting the end of the next month.

So, it's possible, but rather difficult. Make sure to remain very calm and state your reasoning clearly...good luck.
