Regardless of the fact that it was directed at somebody else you did in fact call people who use pre-paid e cheapo's and said we were not real customers. Considering I spend at least $75 a month on my cell I would think that does make me a REAL customer.

I am not a child... I am a responsible adult who just bought my own home, and I don't think it's fair that you basically judged me (and yes I know it was not directed at me personally) and others for our choice of using pre-paid. For some it just works, for a variety of reason... and you should not assume it's just because we're cheap, or we're children, or we're irresponsible.

    ============================

I talked to a T-Mo CS manager, who told me that non-TZones WAP was never intended to be free...it was just a loophole that never got closed.

Like it or not, that actually makes sense. Why would T-Mo offer a $5/month WAP plan if people could get the same WAP access for free? It was always supposed to be T-Zones only, for downloading ring tones, wallpaper and other crap. Verizon and ATT do the same thing, always have.

I complained to the manager that (a) I was misled by my sales rep, and (b) the fact that they didn't tell anyone they were making the change was VERY tacky. He agreed, and said lots of sales reps were misinformed, and passed that misinformation on to customers. He also said he'd been fielding PO'ed calls since it happened, and offered me a free month's service (basic charge only), which I think was actually reasonable.

For all you peeps whining about class action suits, get over yourselves....it wasn't false advertizing because T-Mo never promised unlimited WAP access. (T-Zones doesn't count.)

And for everyone thinking of switching to ATT/Cingular....I came from there, and their service sucks WAY more, as does their CS. And you'll pay a lot more for data, as well as for minutes.

I've got three words for you: Get Over It.
    Read one post up.

PS: Why would they have free WAP, and a pay plan?…. Because the pay plan has more features. The Free Wap was a stripped down version. Stripped down to enable person to download ringertones, etc… and be able to access outside sites on a limited basis in the hopes people would want to get the full version. This kind of marketing is done all the time… Stripped down version=Free… and the one you lust for with all the features after using the Free version=Full price.

BTW: The plans said Wap Access Included.

Since you say you're an adult, act like one. I understand why persons would do the pre-paid thing... Some have bad credit, some are drug dealers.. Some people hardly use the phone at all, and some just don't want a monthly bill.

There are many reasons to use pre-paid. I do have aproblem with persons getting the 1 year special deal.. and then wanting to get Wap along with that. Especailly those who are hooking up to laptops.. and then bragging about sucking down 50-100mb of data within only a 2 week period.

Not all pre-paids are cheapo's... so don't take offense. Even if someone does call you a cheapo.. big deal. As an adult you should take that as a complment. Having a home requires good money management. (being a Cheapo)

I'd rather raise 5 kids to be cheapo's, that to rasie 5 kids that think mom and dad are made out of money (Money tree mentally)

BTW: Why are you doing the pre-paid? Do you have bad credit? Or do you have people in the household that run up huge phone bills and you got pre-paid to keep that from happpening again?
You said something about "making a choice in my life to keep my credit in good shape" and I'm curious.

Well I thought I was acting like an adult by not slamming you with all kinds of names but I can let it go

I switched to pre-paid after going through hell with Sprint, constantly being charged for time I never used... roaming when I never went anywhere..etc....etc.... finally I stopped paying my ×××× bill and got myself an attorney while they were putting this s**t on my credit report (which I had gone through hell to clean up already thanks to my loser ex husband) .... anyway it got resolved after a few months but it was enough to scare me off of signing another contract with anyone for a while. I am close to switching to monthly with T-Mo but still haven't made the leap yet.

And that was the short version

I can use free wap with csd!!!

yesterday night i tried to access the website on my V300 phone and first it said that i had to add tzones to my account, then i exit the browser. Then i went back on to the website and i could get in, but by using csd. i think you should all try this. Try to go online once then exit, then go online again. (The wap website that i went to was mototone.co.uk)

Sorry to hear all that. I can understand why you’re doing the pre-paid in your case. And sorry if I sounded harsh when I said: “Since you say you're an adult, act like one”.

The point I was trying to make is YOU know you’re NOT an e-cheapo since your laying out $75+ per-month.

Most people unless they ARE drug-dealers at least from ALL the posts I’ve read here don’t spend that much. Most of the posts I’ve read involve buying a pre-paid card/account or whatever you want to call it when T-Mobile runs a special deal in which the card doesn’t expire like a normal pre-paid would. (Good for a year) There has been A LOT of talk by persons who have bought into such deals saying they bought it just for the Free Wap, they plan (or are) hooking up to a laptop or such.

They brag about sucking down huge amounts of data… using the phone for data only and using other providers for their voice service in most cases. IN cases such as that the provider (T-Mobile) isn’t making ANY money, and I would assume they hardly make any money off a person who buys the “1-year deal”, then uses it very sparingly, but keeps the phone turned on ALL the time. (PS: I haven’t followed the pre-paid threads so consider that if any of my data is wrong.. Last I heard pre-paids were accessing free-Wap.)

I can understand given your position that you would be sensitive on this issue. I can see how having credit issues and then someone saying you’re an e-cheap-o could set you off given the amount of money you’re paying every month. Take into consideration that persons here have no way to know you’re paying $75+ per month, or your personal money situation so Don’t take things so personally…

One last thing, take it as a complement if someone does call you a cheap-skate. I don’t know if you have kids, but if you’re trying to get back on your feet again having kids that ARE cheap-skates is a definite plus!

Best of luck to you and yours, Hope things get better for you.

Thank you for that... and things are much better, my life is wonderful

Actually last month I shelled out $100 on the pre-paid which is probably why it's time to go monthly (girls off to college in a different state, and yes I have kids..4 of them)...I just can't seem to make myself do it quite yet. And I do understand why you would think the way you do... and it's because I understand it that I'm over sensitive about it.

And to be perfectly honest... I did switch to T-Mobile after reading this forum for awhile and I did know about the free wap (they have since disabled it, 3 days after I switched). And yes the salesgirl did sell me the phone with the promise of free wap knowing it would probably be gone soon. I wouldn't have a problem paying for it if it was offered, but we both know that's not the case for us e cheapo's I'm still glad I made the switch, I love the service and I love the phones (they have become an addiction... I've always been fascinated by electronics).

I will try in the future not to take things so personally. Nice meeting you

Thank you for that well written response. To tell you the truth I was sort-of taken aback by your original post.

One thing I figured I’d mention that may save you money is that if you get a family plan and give a cell phone to those away at College calls to other T-Mobile customers (your daughters) do not count against your minutes. You may come out ahead IF their calls don’t put you over your monthly allotment.

IF say you have (2) daughters away at College and they are the type that CANNOT control their minutes to keep YOU out of financial "hot" water they (the 2 daughters) could get their own account jointly as a family plan and assuming you yourself had at least 2 phones on your account (A family plan) they could call you FREE, or you could call them. It would help build up their credit (well actually only 1 as one would be the primary account).

So far as a contract… If the service is working for you T-Mobile is pretty good about “billing”. I hardly ever see charges for calls I didn’t make…. Another plus is the contract is only for a year.

(HEY: Just thought of another reason to go pre-paid--- You get to verify the coverage /service is right for your needs BEFORE signing a contract and finding out the coverage OR service stinks)
    Wish you all the best.

To tell you the truth I was taken aback by your original post, even though I should more or less expect it given how some people feel about pre-paid. You are right about it being the best way to find out about coverage, service, etc... and while I've had to call customer care a few times I've been overall very happy with the service.

So that brings me to decision making time and I think I will take your advice and go with the family plan that makes one of my daughters the primary account holder... I think she is responsible enough and would be happy to have her credit built up (I'm actually going to make the younger one, only by 10 months...as the primary.. the older one is not as reliable yet). And if it doesn't work out I can always switch it over to me. Thank you for the advice. I think because of your advice and from everything else I've read here over the last few months I feel confident enough that T-Mobile isn't going to cause me the suffering Sprint did.

I love this forum Thanks again!

Oddly enough... I still have working WAP. Don't ask me why, but I do. Atlanta, GA. I hope I'm not getting billed, but it works, and I'm not getting any errors that you guys are. and I KNOW I don't pay for Tzones.

Interesting there are people who it still works for, although I don't think I've heard of areas where all users in the area can still do it. Strange. I've been off since the beginning.

In other news I still haven't heard anything from my letter complaining that they turned off WAP after being told by salesman it would be on. I don't honestly expect to, really, but it will be interesting to see if they do.

Dang! Disappointing! I had free WAP up until tonight! I just upgraded the firmware on my phone, re-ran the T-Mobile configurator just in case (although my data and GPRS accounts hadn't changed it seems), but every time I tried to hit a web page, I was brought to the T-Mobile WAP page that suggested that I had to "click here" to add Unlimited WAP for $4.95 a month.

Oh well. Free ride seems to be over!

Maybe I'll finally have to finally bite the bullet and sign up officially...

On the Moto v300, how do you tell if you are connecting to WAP via CSD or GPRS? I couldn't find anything in the manual. I am still able to hit WAP sites such as wap.yahoo.com. I don't have T-zones on my account.

My v300 is straight from T-mobile and hasn't been flashed/flexed./unlocked/etc.

CSD shows a little phone icon on the display, same icon that appears during calls as session is being billed, or counts towards your minutes.

BTW: What part of the country are you in?

Thanks for the info. I must be using CSD then, as the little phone icon appears when surfing the web. So when using CSD do the same rules apply as normal calls as far as billing goes? Is there any way I can change the phone to use GPRS without flexing/flashing/seeming/unlocking it? I went to the T-Mobile page where they send your phone the wap settings but that didn't change anything.

I am in St. Louis, MO.
