Firmware Reverse Engineering

Hi there.

Is there any way I can reverse engineering to obtain the firware into a programable thing?

Can firmware be "downgraded" from the phone by cable? Can I obtain my firmware anywhere in, for example, a jar format?

I use a 7250i, I´m tired of it and I want to make some chances myself.

I don't have much comp eng experience, but I have done some low lvl programming. I'm thinking it's impossible unless you had the data sheet. Unless there's a way to decompile the firmware into a higher language, it'd be very difficult to understand.
