I should mention that the USB cable must have a serial converter aka a black box inline, or it wont work.

The SE47 cable from Kyocera is not only $40 + S&H, its also backordered. That's no good for those of us who want ringtones for as little as possible as soon as possible, right?
What Kyocera's site doesn't tell you, is that the SE47 data cable is identical to the one used for a number of LGs- VX6000, 5450, VX4600 and vx4500.
I bought a vx6000 cable on eBay for $17 shipped. Far better than a backordered $40 cable.

is this the USB cable or the serial cable?Originally posted by kgelster

Have you confirmed that the LG cable works with the slider?

Ring ring
anything more on this?
Yes, its confirmed. Its the same thing Kyocera sells. In fact, Kyocera even has "LG" in its part number. The LG cable uses the Prolific driver, too.
You can use the LG cables as long as they have the serial converter.
so i can get one of those cables, but where can i go about getting the desktop software? anyone make copies?
so it will work with this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...701719217&rd=1
I have everything )except the orginal shipping box) that came with my cable, and nowhere does it say 'lg'. and if you read the "lm data cable" or whatever thread, you will learn that the LG cableOriginally posted by kgelster

not true

not true either. the part number on the se47 slider cable is "TXDTA10054"

does not work with the se47.
I don't know what "prolific" driver is, but i do know that kyocera makes their own software.

Go here and you will see the USB cable's part number is LGXBU074. And yes, you're right, the straight USB data cable from the LG doesn't work, but serial-converted USB cable does work. The LG supports both USB and serial through its comm port, the SE47 only supports serial.
Kyocera wrote the desktop software, they did not write the driver. The driver is written by Prolific because the cable uses their serial adaptor.
dude, i HAVE the usb cable that I personally bought from kyocera. I have all the documentation and pamplets that came with it. on the ac-in box-thing(the little plastic doohicky in the middle of the cable) it says :"(kyocera "K"logo)KYOCERA MODEL TXDTA10054 DATA CABLE MADE IN CHINA" . the number you refer to is just a (randomly generated?) inventory number. if you follow this link, you will see another number. i'm sorry if i was mistaken about the serial cable working with the adapter or usb whatever. why would kyocera outsource to a competitor to make cables? that's like steve jobs lending bill gates a dollar.... iduno...Originally posted by kgelster

edit: if you go here, the Rave data cable w/o the software has an 'lg'xxxxxxxxx number too. to my knowledge, lg does not make a phone whos data cable outlet is in the headset port(as is the Rave's)

ok well go here and you will see there is an LG in it
I called Kyocera access. store the other day and they had it in stock and should be arriving here shortly.

i'm not doubting that "lg" is not part of the serial number for the USB cable. i'm doubting that the cable is made by lg, or is made to be used for an lg phone.Originally posted by bova80

@kgelster, does your LG cable have an AC-power-in box in the middle of the cable? and if so, does it have a little hole(i don't recall the mm width) for a power cord?
vm
It does not, it takes power from the USB port.
no one is saying it is made for lg, he is saying that the lg cable can also be used on the slider, so therefore they have the same connection you just need the inline serial converter (black box) on the cable for it to work. i just ordered an lg vx6000 cable so we'll see if it works
