New Sprint tower going up in Diamond Bar, CA

For anyone in the Los Angeles County area here's some good news. A new Sprint tower in Diamond Bar near Pantera Park is under construction! It's going to be a pine tree located next to Cingular's panels (which are mounted on the water tank) above Eastgate Dr. It will improve coverage to the residential area as well as Grand Ave. on the Diamond Bar/Chino Hills border (where there currently is no signal at all by most providers).

Yes there will be better service in a matter of weeks. It depends on how fast they can get SBC to install the T1's and pass city inspection. My guess is anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks. I'll post any updates that I find out.

I stand corrected. Dimaond Bar is Verizon territory. This could be good news because SBC often drags their feet on these projects. Maybe Verizon will be a little quicker.

This is GREAT news! I get absolutely no reception by Pantera Park (more specifically Boxcove). This was the only area that was weak for Sprint in my frequented areas.

I'd kinda like to see some pics of it... Given that I'm in TN and we don't disguise our cell towers out here, I'm curious to see what this pine tree tower looks like.

I'll try and post some pics in about a week or two when construction is progressing and the branches are attached. It's going to be disguised as a tree of some kind.

Hopefully, this tree will blend in

Recently, Cingular put up a pine tree cell site along the freeway in an area with no other trees just dry grass so the site stands out like sore thumb.

However, I have seen some tree sites blend in pretty well

Here is a pic of site I took for Cingular - site placed in church steeple. http://geocities.com/elevencid/3sm/51751.jpg

Now, that it is all completed. Can't even tell there is a site there.

It all has to do with the referrer being sent... If Geocities gets a request for an image and the referrer is something other than Geocities, it won't allow it. That prevents hot-linking of images and cuts down their bandwith. That's why if you paste it directly into the address bar, it works fine because you're not sending a referrer. I use Firefox and have an extension that lets me block referrers for certain tabs... I tried blocking referrers and clicking the link and it worked fine. Needless to say, Geocities sucks.

    woo.. 400th post.

Here is a picture of Cingular tree cell site along one of the freeways here in CA. Highway 60 across from Fry's at Crossroads Parkway.

Update!! The new Sprint tower in Diamond Bar is now on the air. It must have come on sometime over the weekend. The entire residential area that used to have no coverage has good coverage now. In additon this fills in a complete dead zone along Grand Ave between Diamond Bar and Chino Hills. Nice work Sprint! I tried to post a picture of it but it far exceeds the max. size allowed here.
