High Speed Internet?

Just saw a commercial with 6 frogs in a cricle trying to get one fly and they get their tongues tied up and the line says, "Tired of sharing?" and introduces Telus offering high speed Internet. I guess they are trying to market against Rogers Internet. That's weird because I never heard anything about Telus providing Internet service. I then checked out the website and looks like it's more for businesses. Very interesting........

i'm not sure how wide their service area is out east, but in western canada Telus is THE landline provider (like your Bell) so they provide ADSL and pretty much the same thing as Bell in Ontario. Telus is now a national company as well, so i'm sure you will soon have Telus just as Bell is now offering landline coverage out west.

TELUS has been offering wireline and IP services in the east for well over year now. This has been accomplished through acquisitions, mergers, and plain old capital investments in new market areas. However, they currently only offer these services to the business market.

TELUS' revenues in the eastern wireline and IP services market are currently growing at a rate of over 70% per year.

If I recall correctly eastern non-mobility revenues are now about 1 billion per year.

They are promoting it for business. In Toronto the market for consumers (high speed) is Bell Sympatico hi speed and rogers hi speed.

Oh, I wasn't aware that Telus had been doing this for so long. Anyone actually have the service from them? I personally wouldn't think it would be very good.

In terms of business landline or ADSL services it would be as good or better than what you would get from bell. After all its the same technology using the same equipment.

In terms of IP services TELUS offers a very very good service. TELUS operates the number one rated internet backbone in Canada and is now the largest web hosting company. In terms of a consumer ISP they are now the third largest.

i used telus high speed when i lived at cityplace, the new condo beside skydome. It was 50 bucks for a 100 mbps connection which is 10x faster than rogers. The service was great and I think they are starting to offer it to other reisdential subscribers too.

even though it's a 70% growth rate, it's been revised down from
the 100%+ growth rate they initially projected when going into
the East.

100mbps connection too but not with Telus! but with Novus!

Yes, it was revised downwards for this year although last year was on target. The reason they gave was that the processes and systems they had put in place were not capable of handling the volume of demand they received. They said they were not well thought out beforehand, but are now being reworked. They went to great lengths to reiterate that there is no lack of demand for TELUS services so I'm curious to see how next years growth will be.

The Novus internet service is AWESOME in Vancouver, but is limited in availability. Their cable TV service sucks though.

The benefit of novus internet is that you are directly connected to the internet backbone with no transmission technology such as ADSL or Cable inbetween you and the internet. In order to accomplish this your building has to be specially wired during construction. Basically there is an ethernet jack on your wall that goes right into your computer. There isn't even a modem.

I believe they had special cabling installed during construction. So not sure if it can be done for existing buildings.

novus is a 10 mbps connection, not 100 mbps connection, and your bandwidth is limited to 2 gigs up/down per month...if you stay within that bandwidth amount, it is a great deal for $30/month.
