You must enter your password to get your voice mail. You can program *86 then pause then your password so all you have to do is push a couple of buttons.
Voice mail retrieval from your cell counts against your minutes, from a different phone, no.

I used to have T-Mobile and their voicemail system has an
option where I can choose not to enter my PIN# when I dial
into voicemail from my own phone/number.
Now that I've switched to Verizon, I can't seem to find this
in the voicemail setup menus. Is this not possible with
VerizonWireless or have I somehow overlooked it?
By the way... a related question concerning voicemail on VZW.
Am I billed for the minutes when calling into voicemail?
(either from mobile or landline)
Thanks for your help!![]()

My phone won't let me program * numbersHopefully my Treo will... ××××, when will it get here???
If you can't program * numbers, just program your phone number. Works the same way; even works if you're roaming, unlike *86.
I too switched from TMobile and would like to not enter my password when calling from my cell. How do I program a pause? Wouldn't it have to be a rather lengthy pause? It has to wait for it to dial, pickup and at least initiate the prompt, no?Originally Posted by GeneB
Programming a pause depends on the phone. Usually when you are entering a number, there should be a menu item for "Options" or something similar.Originally Posted by shobuddy
For example, with an LG phone, if you start entering a phone number, under "Options", you can program a 2 second pause which on an LG, is the letter "T".
Your voicemail programmed number would then look like: XXX-XXX-XXXXTPPPP where XXX-XXX-XXXX is your own phone number, T is the pause character for your phone, and PPPP is the password for your voicemail box.

Thanks, I found the menu option for pause and this works great. No more entering password!Originally Posted by Smuuth
A "Pause" or "Wait" is different in all phones, and some only have one or the other. Most likely, there is a "menu' selection on the screen when you are entering a phone number from which you can choose a Pause or Wait.Originally Posted by shobuddy
On most phones, the "Pause" waits for 2 or 3 seconds. If you need more time you add more Pauses, getting 2 or 3 seconds more for each. Unfortunately, the amount of time is different for me between On-Network and roaming calls, therefore, I have a different phone book entry for V/M access while roaming. Also, roaming networks do not recognize *86. I have 1 Pause at home, 2 for roaming.
Because the string runs automatically, I would have long since forgotten my password if I didn't see it flash by on the screen.

How can I get this to work for my LG VX8100? And can I also have it saved as speed dial #1 even though *86 is programmed? thanks will
Verizon Wireless uses the Comverse voicemail platform. The system has the option to remove the password when you dial in, but the option is turned off for security reasons. Verizon will not allow you to access your VM without a password.Originally Posted by kathy_moore
They do this to protect you. All of the VM systems have different options that can be turned on and off per the carriers request. I have worked on both the Glenayre and the Comverse and they can do many different things. The local Alltel competition uses glenayre. They use 3 to skip the greeting and deposit the message. Verizon uses * to do the same thing when they had Glenayre. It is just different menu options turned on and off.
