    Thumbs up Backlight: Light Sensitive?

I couldn't find that this was anywhere else, so I started another thread.

Regardless. Has anyone else noticed that the backlight on the keypad is light sensitive?

    Very cool!

Yeah, it's in the manual. The light sensor is beneath the small tranlucent bumper thingy at the bottom left of the phone (when it is open).

    Ahhh... good to know.

I would have know that had I read the manual. But you know kids and their new toys. Only read the manual after you've broken it.

So true, but it's the best way to learn about your new toy.

I was trying to figure that out too. I figured there was no reason for the bumpers to be translucent except that. But, like my 15" PowerBook, it wasn't working exactly all the time so I wasn't sure. Good to know.

    Southpaws

Hrm. They seem to have forgotten about the 10% of the population that is left-handed. The shadow caused by my thumb activates the backlight whenever it is over any of the keys in the lower-left quadrant of the keypad. Probably explains the short battery times I've been getting.

Since there are two of these "translucent bumper thingies", it would have been nice if Moto included a Settings option to specify left or right hand use.

yes, this was one of the things that bugged me when I first got the phone...

not so much the power, but that the keyboard backlighting really obscures the numbers/letters when there's still moderate ambient light.

I've adapted....something lefties have to do sometimes

yeah, that is a pain. I just sent a message on Motorola's support site. I'll let you know if I get a response.

if you get a response it will be either
    a) return the phone within 15 days
    or
b)tie your left hand behind your back and learn to be a righty..

Exactly. Its not like they can change it in firmware.
