Nokia 3595 not updating to home time zone?

I enabled the automatic time update on my Dad's 3595 when he went to California for a wedding, and when he came back, it didn't adjust the time, which I had to do manually this morning.

Anyone knows if Tmobile Hawaii is having problems with their time syncing service?
Anything below this statement isn't part of the post I just made.

Maybe they do not provide time updates in your area. When I travel from Arizona to California the time on my phone will set itself shortly after powering up. In Arizona I can leave the clock unset for a week. It doesn't get set unless I do it myself.

T-mo doesn't have time updates in many places. I have different phones and still the same result: no time updates. This seems to be a very basic feature that even carriers like Sprint have. Kinda sad, but oh well...it's a good thing I can reset the time off my watch.
    I do 150 mph...on landing *yawn*

I think the reason it works in California is because Cingular runs the show in California. I was in Las Vegas for a couple days and it would not update there either. I would not be surpised if tmobile didn't do time updates anywhere.

I am not sure that time update is the right thing to call this feature. Maybe the reason is that its such a basic feature nobody took the time to think of a name.

Until I had tmobile I did not know that there were cell phones that did not set their own clocks.

NITZ (Network Initiated Time Zone) is not an essential function of the GSM system like CDMA is. Rumor has it all markets will be functional with date and time update (NITZ) by year end.

California and Nevada are using the Cingular infrastructure. I was in Vegas and Reno last year and it worked on my Nokias.

I just came back from Vegas and my time was updated there automatically but upon returning to DFW I was on my own...had to reset myself

I didn't realize that Vegas was also using Cingular. I wasn't there very long so I probably just didn't notice it. Since Arizona does not observe daylight savings time it is the same time in Nevada and California as it is in Arizona right now.

If Vegas was on cingular I never noticed it...I never roamed...my op logo never changed...everything was like normal.

That is right..unless you have an older T-Mobile SIM card your operator logo probably never changed. It's programmed to show T-Mobile.

But if you did a manual network search on your phone, as I did when I was in Reno it most likely will show 'Cingular' and 'AT&T Wireless' as the only available networks. You can select Cingular, but the phone will display T-Mobile. Transparent for the everyday user.

allright...Ill buy that , but wouldnt the phone somehow show me that I was roaming? Or is that totally transparent as well and only noticeable if I physically check for available networks...

I am not sure about other manufacturers, but none of the GSM Nokia handsets I own have a roaming indicator. I don't think it is the norm of GSM phones. The operator logo is usually it.

My friend and I both have the Motorola 72x GSM phone. I have T-Mobile and he had AT&T. When my phone roamed to at&t the status light would stay green since it is free with tmobile. When his phone would roam to cingular the status light changed to yellow I think because roaming is not free with at&t

Sprint PCS and Verizon have auto time update as part of the CDMA spec. It is not a necessary part of the GSM spec. So you'll always have auto time update on any CDMA system which is what Sprint PCS is. T-Mobile is implementing NITZ though their system and are changing systems gradually to all support it. It is not in all areas yet.

The feature is called NITZ Network Information Time Zone in GSM.

All CDMA systems (Sprint PCS, Verizon etc.) all have time coordination built in as part of the system spec.

You probably have an EONS SIM card. If you do the operator text will always show T-Mobile.
