Okay, so what I am doing, as the title implies, is I have a 7510 that I use for work and my new i860 to use at night...
I wish to use the i860 sim in the blackberry because when in the i860 will allow pictures to be displayed for callers, rings for different callers, and the ability to send SMS messages from the phone.
I had customer care swap them and while they got the i860 phone number, they haven't gotten the 7510 number on the i860 sim yet.. Something happened and messed it up and it's now in limbo...
Anyone else attempted this or does a person that works at nextel tech care to chime in and can perhaps help me get this resolved? The sim swap didn't go through and they said I have to wait 24 hours to wait for it to process and I can call tech support in the AM and find out what's going on..
Just asking and sharing my experiances as I am sure other 7510 users would like to take an i860 with them after 5PM.

Alright. Here's what happened... It got screwed up last night and had a "Cannot complete" error, so I called this AM when tech support was back in and they said it could take 24 hours to fix... About 20 minutes later, I turned the phone off and on and it came back to being alive...
End of story:
7510 now has i860 sim in it and is functioning fully with all blackberry services.
And when I move sim to i860 I can send MMS messages and I can set picture ID and ringers per contact..
I have to manage the two phonebooks seperately, but it's well worth it to have full functionality between the two devices...
I must give a HUGE thank you to Customer care who, even though this is an unsupported configuration and is not sanctioned by nextel, that they were willing to get this done for me...
Hope this helps some people!!!
You won't have to change your plan at all. I believe what HaTax has done is switched his service info from the old blackberry sim to the new i860 sim (even the info regarding his blackberry plan). In this way, your blackberry will be using a new sim (but still behave and function exactly the same as it used to), but this same sim in the i860 will allow this phone to have its full functionality (correct me if I'm wrong HaTax).Originally posted by JAdderly

Glad you got it working, and good to know that it can be done.![]()

That's exactly what I did.. Been using the i860 and 7510 trading on and off today.. Gotta say I love the ability to send pictures so easily and the i860 is GREAT at DCing.. I know that's a dumb thing to be happy about but it seems the other phones do alot of "User not Available" in the middle of conversations
Thanks for providing this information. I'm waiting for my i860 from Amazon.com (since I bought it without a contract).
I have one question. When I used to have an i88, I would receive updates to the contact list that were pushed out to everyone in my company. When I got the Blackberry 7510, I stopped receiving them because of the way contacts are stored on the Blackberry. If I switch to the i860 SIM card, can I receive or "pull" a copy of the company contact list down to the SIM card while it's in the i860? I hope my question make sense.

If you were somehow receiving contacts when you had the i88, it should work the same with the i860. However, you cannot retreive info off the sim when you put it in your blackberry (because as you found out addresses are handled differently and stored in the hard drive of the unit). What you could do is send the new address from the 860 in an email to your bb address, and then you should be able to save (most likely using the cut and paste method) the address in your bb. Hope this helps.Originally posted by Sam K

Thanks. Yes, I know I can't retrieve info off the SIM with the Blackberry. I was just hoping I could get all the company direct connect numbers onto the i860 SIM card without manually entering all of them. I'm just curious how I can initiate the process to receive the contact list. I guess I forgot how to do that since it's been a long time.
Anyway, I already have all the contacts on my Blackberry. I got them by importing a company directory into Outlook and then using the Blackberry Desktop Manager to sync Outlook with my Blackberry. As long as the direct connect number is in the "radio" field in Outlook, it will end up in the proper field in the contact entry on the Blackberry.
Good news and bad news...
Good news is that you can push thos contacts onto the i860 sim while it is in the i860..
Bad news is that it cannot be done OTA..
Reason being is that while the web access works on the i860 and all, it is a blackberry web plan and does not allow access to the online address book because the BB doesn't support it. So...... your web homepage screen looks like the one on the BB, not the one if you had the online package on a normal phone..
Bottom line, it can be done, but you'll need a data cable and phonebook manager...
Just got my 860 wohoooooo! Do you thin k can get nextel to put email on blackberry and phone and direct connect on i860...So i can carry both phones with me and use 1 for email and one for phone calls...
You should be able to get them to do that... Lots of carriers allow that.
HaTax, I just got off the phone with Nextel and they connected me with the wireless web dept (or whatever it was called) that handles Blackberry accounts and the person there gave me this warning about how using a SIM card from a 7510 in an i860 will damage the i860 and vice versa because the SIM cards are made by different manufacturers and made specifically to work with their phones. She told me that either the phone could be damaged or the SIM card could burn out. She even said that she had to note my account about the conversation in case anything goes wrong with my equipment now. Did you hear anything like this when you did your SIM swap? Have you had any problems with your 7510 since you started using the i860 SIM card in it?
She also told me that I can do either just a SIM swap or a SIM swap and serial number swap (I guess so they know I have an i860 on the account) but I didn't think that was necessary. She mentioned that it would take 24 hours like HaTax indicated but I don't think that piece is necessary. My company pays for my account and I don't want them to incur additional charges as a result of anything that I do.

just call and swap your BB cell number and DC to the new i860, cancel the data plan on the BB, and then reactivate the BB with the 49.95 unlimited plan. It includes new phone and DC numbers that you instruct CC to mark as "restricted" No monthly fees for the phone and DC, they are pay as you go only.
Hoping to do this tomorrow myself, when my new i860 arrives.
I called customer care with the same sort of quandry:
What I would have to do:
Get new line of service with phone of choice, and pay for that phone.
Do a flip flop, change new phone to have BB service only, and have the new phone setup with the BB phone number and DC number.
Blackberry will stay on Data-only plan (which you just activated), and your phone will have your same number.
The problem is, that with any new line of service (own hardware or not, have a 33 line account - they still want that ×××× f'n year contract).

Not sure I understand what you are trying to say... Do you want to be able to carry the bb when at work, etc, but have a phone that you could carry with the same number on the weekend (so you don't have to carry the bb)? If so, it really is as simple as doing a sim swap and putting the sim in any phone you want to use it in. I'm not sure I understand the need to buy a new phone, unless of course you WANT the bb and phone seperate. If that is the case, of course you have to buy the phone, and of course there will be a one year contract. That is how most, if not all, activations work with Nextel.Originally posted by AlexC
