I tried to get animation to work as well. The stock animations are in some format that I couldn't figure out. I downloaded CMX Studio and bought the cable for my phone. I couldn't make anything useful with CMX Studio, but I built some animations in Image ready and they play on the phone, but won't work as animated wallpaper. As others said, they played very slow in the phone when I tried it.
