Will Verizon work with/deviate from standard plans?
I'm currently with Cingular in Houston, and have been out of contract for a few years. I'm thinking about switching to Verizon, but would only do so if I could get a comparable rate plan.
My wife and I are both on Cingular's 250 anytime minutes and 3500 N/W nationwide (no roaming/LD) for $29.99 a month.
The closest I see (I don't want America's Choice) is the National OneRate with 150 minutes for $35. It doesn't look like any N/W minutes are included.
I plan on going to a store this afternoon to find out what the options are, but I'd like to know if it's possible for the sales reps to work with the plans to get me on a comparable plan in order to get me to switch.
I stopped by a local store and the salesman said that they can only offer what's advertised...and considering the drastic cut in minutes I'd be taking (or the drastic price increase), I'm going to have to pass on Verizon for the time being. We'll see what kind of 'specials' they offer between now and Christmas.

Not a lot, but I really just don't want to worry about it.
I do some camping, etc. in some areas of Central Texas that are a ways off the main highways. Business sometimes takes me out of state.
More or less, I really just don't want to worry about it.
I'll give it some thought...and will hopefully make a decision by Christmas time. That will give me plenty of time to evaluate my options and see what new hardware comes out in the next few months (of course, then I'll want to wait until March for the cool new phones that are announced in January )
So, I was thinking about waiting for a while and seeing what plans (if any) become available in the near future (end of year). Cingular's cut back on their rate plans to come more in line with Verizon, and it looks like they'll be moving more towards a plan like Verizon's AC (Nationwide...as long as it's on Cingular's network or their preferred partners).
With that, I would think that Verizon wouldn't be inclined to offer any big changes in their plans, as Cingular's no longer offering such a large discount.
Is it a safe assumption to make that Verizon won't be doing much with their plans for a while?
Also, is there a certain time of year when cellular companies offer promotions in order to generate revenue (Christmas maybe? - like PC manufacturers), or is it pretty much random?
Pablo,
Our current Local VZ promotion ends on Oct. 14th. I would expect something new the next day. This last promo kinda sucked, and I bet it didn't bring too many people through the doors. So, yes, I would expect something new for the holidays on Oct 15th.
America's Choice has really been a hot item for VZ. So hot, I believe they see no need to sweeten the deal. My guess is they will restructure the Local plans.
Yes, the 4th quarter is HUGE, I think it's 40% of the year's business.
I know that in the west (of TX), Cingular isn't even on VZ's radar screen. They could easily just be ignoring what Cingular does, except in some large local markets (i.e. NYC, but not L.A.).

The mood I have been gettting from our Verizon Reps, and a few other people within VZW is we may see the local plans go away alltogether, at least so in the NE region.
Not a big deal here as 92% of our activations are AC or AC family share now.
