I was sitting at home last night and I noticed my phone dropped out of service...went from 3 bars to no service. It was still that way 10 minutes later... I checked my old sprint phone and it couldnt find service either..
I took a ride in the car and I noticed that the phone went back into service like 2 miles down the road. I was able to make and receive calls perfectly then.. I drove around a little bit longer and when I got near home the phone dropped out of service again..
I then drove back down the street where my phone would pick up service. I then made a call and drove through the "dead spot" area. My phone handed off to the cell tower fine. But the other phone I had with me would not find service on that tower.. The second I hung up the first phone, it went back to "searching for service".
So basically, no phone was able to "sign on" to the cell tower, but if you placed a call and was driving into the area of that tower, your call would hand off fine to the tower.
ANY EXPLANATION FOR THIS?
CDMA has "soft handoff" but I could still hear the tower handing off on my phone.. I heard a slight click, and the other persons voice got LOUDER for like 2 seconds, and then went back to regular volume. And I know that it was a handoff that I heard because the other phone dropped out of service at exactly that moment.
