    Here's how I did it.

In Message Center choose: Create Message/New Pix Message.

The To: dialoge box comes up. I use a bogus number such as 222-222-2222.

Now you are in Message Body. Choose Insert/Sound. You will probably get the annoying Chain Link.mp3 as default.

Hit menu (the middle soft key). Select Switch Storage Device . Select Trans Flash. Select your mp3 file.

Now you are back to message body. Select OK. Then select Send. Your message will attempt to go out, but will fail because of the bogus message address.

After you get the Unable to Send message, go to your Outbox. Read the failed message you just tried to send.

You will hear your mp3 when you open the message. Select Menu (middle soft key).

Select Save Items. Under Save What? , Select File.

The mp3 will play again. Select Store.

    Under Storage Devices choose Phone.

You have now moved an mp3 from your TF Card to Phone. It looks rather convoluted, but is easy to do after a couple of transfers.
will this method work with telus?

I think you can move mp3's from the TF card to the phone's memory without having to do anything.
But, I believe you need to do a seem edit to be able to use mp3's as ringtones on the telus V710.

This is a quote from Mark V's Seem Edit page: www.v710.org/mark

Allow Shutter Sound Option. Offset 005E, Bit 6, set value to 1.
Allow Apply As Ringtone. Offset 0075, Bit 4, set value to 0.
Bluetooth via Multimedia Studio in MPT. Offset 006A, Bit 0, set value to 1 (as discussed above).

I have tried the pix message mp3 outbox method for transferring an mp3 to my phone to use as a ringtone. I get as far as sending the message and getting a failure to send error (which is what I want), but when I go to my outbox and open the message no music plays, when I go to "store" and try to store the file it says "Error: File Type Not Recognized"

The mp3s have been playing just fine on my phone from the TF Card. I have been saving them as 64kbs, 44hz, mono.

    What is going wrong here???

hmmm ... the title of this thread is "New V710 Software 8700.01.40.0R", and the phone listed on your profile says Samsung a670. I should've realized you had an E815 with (presumably) 1.1E.00
Anyway, I thought it still worked. Check Mark V's pages and see what he says about it (try the Ringtone link, or the Stock Phone link): www.v710.org/mark

    It does still work....

the instructions at -> http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...89#post4810989 work perfectly with my Moto E815 (1.1E.00 firmware) link to this post is on my Transflash page.

And this person asked this exact question in another thread too..

I am doing exactly what all the instructions say to do. I am making sure my mp3s are configured the way other people have said works for them as well. It is still not working. No music plays when I open the outbox message then I get the "file type not recognized" when I try and save the file.

The exact S/W Version on my phone is 8720_01.1E.00 if that matters.

Yeah, that's currently the latest V710 software version (2.03.00R), which came out last summer.
This thread is a year and a half old, and was started when we first saw the 1.40.0R software (back when the E815 was a rumour )

Sending a file is an MMS message, not a text (SMS) message.
But if it fails to send, then you should not be charged anyway.
