There are a lot of reviews of the 6230 I'd do the z500.

At this moment today (Dec 15th 2004) I am waffling over the Z500a and the 6230. I haven't physically seen a working Z500a, but I've fiddled enough with the 6230 to render some personal preferences.
Air goes in and out. Blood goes round and round. Any deviation is a problem.
C'mon splurge a little...get both!

I would except that:
1) As of today, 12/15/04, my local corporate store in San Ramon, CA (94583) doesn't have the Z500a and doesn't know when they're getting them, and
2) Some grumpy, necktie-wearing manager-type there barked at me once for "returning so many phones" in a relatively short period of time. Short? Like, within the 2-week trial period. To this store's credit, my regular customer service dudes that work there are the complete opposite, and are uber-cool.
I think I need a "job" where I can Nit Pick things for a living.

I have been using the V551 for a month now, and I am impressed with it. The earpiece and speakerphone volume are awesome, and you can talk on the speakerphone with the clamshell closed. I like the blue ruuber feel, seems more durable than the V400. I keep the phone in my pocket and have no scratches on the outer LED or housing (so far). My V400 outer LED was scratched pretty good after one month. The only gripe I have is that little "pop" that happens before any sound is played.
Help.
So, I just got this phone this afternoon with my port over from Sprint. In my excitement, I forgot to look at the battery while in the store to figure out if it's an AA or BA version.
I just got home and tried to get the battery door off. Um, this thing is beyond my ability. Never had a phone with a battery cover.
Any hints on how to get the battery cover off? Boy, I feel like a noob.

D'ya see that little oval tic-tac looking button in the lower right of the photo? That's the battery door release. You may need to press down pretty good to clear it. You may have, in your excitement, forgotten to remove the plastic film over it, which can make it more sticky than average.
But don't fret: Simply type *#9999# and the last two digits on the screen will be the rev number.
I didn't put the phone together. The Cingular rep did. ××××. I press that little release button but I can't seem to get the cover off...ugh. I just can't seem to get enough leverage to pop it off.Originally posted by WirelessAndy

Oh, well, will mess with my phone book and try again later.
i just picked up the phone tonight.....after using the V3 for about a month I decided to get the 551 i am overly impressed...great phone would recommend it to anyone.
It kind of slides off. From top to bottom while pushing in the button. The button has to go below the plastic cover.
