I've been reading this and other forums, and I don't think this is old news at all. In fact, this could be a really good thing.

Given the circumstances surrounding the Texas betaware, I'm guessing that they are finding it difficult to partially unlock BT. Maybe they're looking at undoing the whole thing. The wireless market is very competitive, and the other carriers are offering many full-featured bluetooth options. I could see how VZW would be willing to take a haircut on GIN revenue in order to keep customers.

And, if the bluetooth is uncrippled, than OBEX is enabled, mainly because OBEX is a profile of bluetooth I still doubt they will, but I hope they do, because I will rush straight out and pick up a Secure Digital and USB bluetooth adaptor the second it happens

A tech support person at Motorola, in the last few days, has voluntarily confirmed that bluetooth is to be firmware uncrippled in the very near future, on the Verizon v710's.

Someone at Motorola told me that they'd have OBEX fixed at end of September/early October.. Then in late october they told me by end of November at the latest. A few days ago they said "soon" but refused to give a date.

Motorola tech support knows as much as I do, which is NOTHING. Until someone hands me my phone back with OBEX support, I'm not believing jack.

In fact, I will never buy another Motorola or Verizon product because of this. It's the shadiest I've been treated by a large company.

I think Verizon is hard up for some cash... probably to close the gap on their "revenue leak" by going for that NuclearElephant V710 Hacker Reward Pot. I say let them release it first, then tell them they're not eligible.
