What do you mean it w/ just T-zones? You have to have the unlimited T-zones plan at $5 of course to browse to all html sites from the handset. The thing of it is now is that all 3rd party apps can now work if they can be configured to use a proxy server, and this includes Opera on S60 phones.
Works well on an SE p900. The interesting thing is i think it is somehow throttling the bandwidth.
I did notice something very interesting about the p900, when u get an unlocked p900 and just start to use opera with nothing configured (no apn setup, just the default setup) you get blazing fast access.
This appeared and then disappeared (monday night) I am wondering if this whole move was really a bandwidth limiting move and that this proxy configuration will simple be added to future OTA updates when people look to add config info for t-zones?
Well, my speed test revealed similar speeds to what I was getting using the normal port 80. However, it seems the pages are rendering faster for whatever reason. Whereas pages loaded in pieces before, whole pages are appearing at once.
yeah a good example of a site i used with opera is www.bash.org, a typical page from that site is around 40-50 k. Before, it would load at about 3-5 k/sec and you could see the progress of the transfer in operas screen. Now, it sits at 0 k for the same amount of time, then opens the entire screen. However, i think that is just how opera uses the proxy server to transfer the data. All in all it doesnt seem faster nor slower here. I havent tried this yet, but my feeling is that you can configure IE on your laptop to use the same proxy server on port 8080 to browse web pages as before... This explains why built in browsers are able to access html pages (at least on symbian phones) they must be preconfigured to use the tmo proxy server with port 8080... Can someone post results with ie on a laptop using this proxy? tools>internet options> connections>LAN Settings...
Originally posted by floepie I got it! My Opera browser is now working just as it has before over port 8080 and T-Mobile's proxy.
Just set turn the proxy to 'on' and use the following http ip and port:
216.155.165.50 port 8080.
Don't know how long this will last, but there you go.
Happy surfing!
This is nice!
Let me ask tou you add the proxy from Opera Preference or from Control panel Internet Acconts?
I add them from Opera and Opera works fine and the rest of the programs is dead...
I try to add the proxy from the Internet accounts (that's way all the 3rd party programs can use it) and it is not working...

3rd party apps would have to be configured to use a proxy just like Opera. Just because you have a proxy configured doesn't mean every app will use those settings.
Opera for the smartphone doesn't have a proxy setting and doesn't use my proxy config on the phone.

Most built in browsers are WAP browsers. WAP uses port 9201.
I have tested tethering since they blocked port 80. It will not work. You can try with a browser using the config above and you can also try using a WAP browser (Klondike) and config it to use the WAP proxy and it won't work.
T-Zones is made to work from you phone. If you want to tether a device you should be paying for the $19.99 plan.

The settings listed above DO work on tzones w/3rd party browser and/or tethering. I just used them with my PPC thru bluetooth to my a630 and surfed flawlessly. You must work for tmobile or something if your saying it doesnt. At least I can turn my proxy off for awhile till they figure this one out
You beat me to it! I knew this would work. A configurable 3rd party app for your phone should work in the same way tetherable and configurable software does.
I was just going to setup my PPC and computer do it via 8080.
