I would assume it would be a lease of the technology from Sprint in an agreement with VZW to roam on their EVDO network so to help with their own smaller EVDO network offerings.
Not sure if Sprint would be shooting themselves in the foot doing that or not. But that is my guess how VZW would have HPPTT by Q4 2008.
a spark of hope maybe?? i would love fast ptt on verizon,,but it wont serve any purpose if they have garbage speakerphones utilizing the ptt! half the battle is having a great speakerphone!!
you have any proof or something???? any newer phones coming out!!
There is a new Motorola phone that will be coming out. Looks sort of like a ruggedized version of the v9m, flip format with grip texture and large LCD on the outside.

I think that issue will have to be addressed with Sprint and their QChat because just like you stated, if the speaker phone is garbage, no one will want it. Therefore I believe they will make it where the speaker is reasonable. They are reasonable on the Sprint hybrid units which are 3/4 a CDMA unit.
I think by the time VZW comes out with HPPTT, the speakers should be up to par.
VZW's biggest concern will be to make sure all their EVDO area's are Rev. A and not just Rev. 0.
The air ambulance service that I work for is considering switching to VZW PTT from Nextel DC.
Comments? We just received demo phones and haven't used them a lot. We use Nextel to help coordinate emergency responses. Can we expect VZW PTT to be more or less user friendly than Nextel DC?
I would have to guess that the nextel ptt would be better since ive heard not so good things about verizons PTT but maybe its better now. I honestly didnt even think they still had it. I have a nextel for work, and all they are really good for is radio which is only what mine is enabled to do(cant make calls) For what it is it works i guess but report back on the verizon PTT. Im curious to hear how it is.
The coverage will be a lot better, that's for sure. Nextel doesn't even have service up here, public services use radio dispatch or PTT on Verizon or US Cellular, you didn't say where you are located but here in the rural west Nextel is often Notel

I am guessing they are looking at switching because the coverage is bad, I would never depend on Nextel for emergency services unless I lived in an urban area.
If i was told right, the new PTT name with be Enhanced PTT. It will launch summer / Q3 with a new gzone and a rugged motorola. It will use broadband access, 2 second setup time, 1 sec or less latency. In a 1X area the setup and latency time is a little longer.
I don't anything about how it works today, but I remember when it first came out someone did a test on it, I think it was CNet and one person was in New York and the other in LA or something like that. Anyways long story short, they couldn't get it to work and they were using the Nextel DC to try and get the Verizon PTT to work. I know that it does work as a VOIP call so the initial connection varied pretty dramatically. I don't know if that's been improved upon or not.
When I worked for the general contractor we got 3 verizon test lines and dumped them pretty quickly, mind you we aren't talking life and death and we couldn't deal with it.
Anyone as of late been able to test VZW's PTT service or have any details on any updated versions coming down the pipeline?
I know its initial debut didn't get the best reviews and even today hardly any phones support it, but I'm interested to hear any recent reviews from actual current day users.
