Got to see the Casio Rock today. Sad thing though - when I went into the Verizon Wireless store, the person who welcomed me into the store asked what I needed. When I told him I wanted to look at the new Casio Rock Push-to-Talk phone, the employee looked at me funny then asked another employee what Push-to-Talk was. The fourth person that helped me knew what I wanted to see. He went and found a Rock, opened the box and let me hold it for a bit. Looks nice! Seems a tiny bit larger than the Boulder. Sure wish it was operational. Sadly, this store didn't have any PTT phones on display.
Gonna go to a few other local stores in the next week to see if I can try an operating Rock. Just curious to see how it sounds.

If this was in a corporate store, this is pretty pathetic!

I have found that there are a lot of reps that are pathetic, at least around here.
They claim that before a phone is released that they get trained on it, thats not true at all, I dont know how many times ive gone in to see a phone and asked abot it and they didnt even know what it was.
Is anybody here able to give even an approximation on the number ptt subs?
Theres probably not that many as verizon doesnt even try to market the service, I mean look at the post a couple up, the rep didnt even know what PTT was.
But for me the main thing is that the phone is waterproof as I work with, around, and in water for a living doing enviromental work, and as a volunteer fireman.
And the fact that the only water proof phones are PTT.
I use it more as a toy then a tool.
The numbers is what I'm looking for, I know they don't advertise on tv just want to know how many subs they have. I been hearing of companies picking up the service so that means it's gaining some steam

Theres no one on this fourm that can answer your question unless they are a rep and look into it and then post back.
I understand your question but how do you think anyone other then a verizon employee with access to that information can answer your question?
I just want to know, don't care where the answer comes from. There are plenty of employees here, or at least posting such, so they can either post the numbers or post that's classified

I asked over in the agents fourm and 1 guy so far has answered and said they have no way of finding that info and if they could it would prob. be propriatery info.

There are no publicly stated numbers I am aware of that can be posted with regard to the numbers of PTT subscribers. I will look when I hit work tomorrow but I think it is safe to say the numbers are below iden users and boost mobile users.
For what it is worth, the current PTT option really works well.
My opinions are mine and do not reflect on my employer.

CanAM: With all that money you save monthly with your Sprint plan, you should be able to order Hooked On Phonics - remember, the phone number to order this is 1-800-ABCDEFG.

Thanks, the current standard is just as good as qchat, where available. This is not to compare against another, just want to gauge the interest in ptt now that there are multiple options
Currently I am using a Motorola Adventure V750 and I like to watch YouTube videos now and then. When I go to YouTube and try to watch a video, I get a "malformed URL" error. I can go to www.vuclip.com and search and watch YouTube videos that way.
Just wondering if it is possible to view videos this way with the new Verizon PTT phones (Barrage, Convoy and Rock)?
If anyone has the data plan (don't want you to run up your bill if you don't) and you have a few minutes to spend, could you please give it a try if you are using a Barrage, Convoy or Rock? Here is how I do it on my V750:
Open the web browser and go to this URL: www.vuclip.com
If you see an option for vuclip classic, select it.
In the search box, search for a YouTube video. You can try this one: Poppy The Puppy Gene Autry. (it is a video of an old phonograph record - usually the second item on the search). Before searching, make sure the video button is checked.
After selecting the video, it may take a minute or two then you should see an option to view large. (for the above video it will be 2.1M).
Click on that option and wait another minute or two then the video will play.
Again, this works great with the V750.
Thank you all for your help.
For what it's worth, I am on a Natiowide Basic Family 700 minute plan. My wife is the primary line and she has an older VZW Coupe with voice only. My line is one of the secondary lines. I have the old $15/month Vcast Pak with unlimited mobile web, $10/month messaging plan and of course, $5/month PTT. The other line is an old Motorola W315 with voice only.

the convoy has browser version 3.022.1.19, the motorola barrage has version 7.2.7, the Rock has version 6.2.3.2
Sorry to sound like a smart alec but I say that because of my experiences over the last few weeks.
I have been to four Verizon Wireless stores in the Salt Lake City area and here is what I have found:
Went to one store and asked to see the new Push-to-Talk phones. The employee that welcomed my wife and I to the store had to ask another employee what a Push-to-Talk phone was. After talking to the fourth employee, I was let into the stock room and found a Rock. Got to look at it but it was not active.
Went to another store close to our house. They have the Barrage, Convoy and Rock on display. I had to enable PTT on the Barrage and Convoy and got to try them out. The rock did not have PTT active and I was told to check back later as they would work on it. Went back to the same store Sunday. The Barrage had a dead battery but the Convoy was working. The Rock still didn't have PTT active and I was told to check back in a day or two. I haven't been back yet. Today I went to one store and when I asked to look at the PTT phones, they looked at me like I just arrived from Mars. They had no PTT handsets on display. The last store I went to today had a Rock on display but it was not activated. I asked if the phone could be activated and to have the PTT enabled but was told they just put that phone out because they had space on the display wall. They were not too interested in showing it off so I left.
Are the Verizon Wireless stores in other parts of the country this un-interested in their PTT offerings? I realize that the cool phones like the Droid or BlackBerry are more fun for most folks and they bring in more revenue for VZW but there are a few people like myself that feel that VZW has a great product in their PTT service. Just hope they don't "blow it" and have the service die a silent death.
Got three more local stores to go check out. Hope at least one of them has employees that at least know about PTT.
