I just received a commando that I bought tonight and as soon as I activated it it did the update.
I have made a couple PTT calls with it and and very pleased, and just now downloaded tikl and tried it and it works fine.

Verizon Wireless introduced a push-to-talk service for the BlackBerry Tour.
Beginning March 30, subscribers had the ability to add the service to their existing plans and download an application. Verizon is also offering a 90-day promotion for free push-to-talk service when customers activate a qualifying voice plan and BlackBerry data plan. The service is normally $5 per month on top of a voice and data plan.
The BlackBerry service includes the ability to make group calls with up to 50 participants. It enables presence and availability features for push-to-talk calls and allows subscribers to manage push-to-talk contacts online.

A Verizon spokeswoman told FierceWireless that the Tour is the only BlackBerry for which Verizon is offering the service right now, and declined to discuss whether it will be made available for other BlackBerry models.
Last week, Motorola and Sprint Nextel unveiled plans to launch the ruggedized Motorola i1 push-to-talk smartphone based on Google's Android 1.5 operating system for the Nextel iDEN network.

Anyone on this thread use ptt in a work setting with a lot of users?
I just converted my work (40+) phones from Iden to Sprint ptt and it has been disappointing.
Is there any correlation between their voice and ptt coverage?
Those with Android, iPhone, and Blackberry who are looking for a PTT alternative should check out the app Zello. The experience is very much like the Nextel/Verizon PTT experience. Plus the app is free. Not sure if it does "group" chats, although it has some sort of chat room feature I have not explored.
I tried Tikl, HeyTell, etc. and found Zello to be the most genuine of the PTT interfaces.
(I have no affiliation with Zello as a company, just sharing my find after being a Verizon PTT user for years and losing it with my Android upgrade.)
I am also an avid Zello user. It's the best PTT app. Better than the carrier branded ones too, if you ask me.

Our company just switched to Verizon in January's.
We were Nextel customers since 1999.
Sprint's debacle with Network Vision and no PTT on Sprint in our area forced our hand since we depend on PTT and Group PTT.
So far PTT and Group PTT work as good as if not better than Nextel.
The big benefit is we now has service virtually everywhere and great data speeds.
Is there any verizon ptt groups on here? Would be cool to get some people on ptt and do a group call
New update for VZW Casio G'zOne Commando!!! Supposed to fix PTT-reboot issues and speakerphone issues. Go to the Verizon Wireless support page for the Commando (I'd post the link, but I'm not allowed to, yet). Google search "Software Update: Casio® G'zOne Commando". It says at the top "Coming Soon!", but it was already available when I checked for updates on my phone yesterday afternoon.
PTT is short for push-to-talk. It's a voice technology where a user pushes a button while he talks while another user(s) listen. Large groups of people can engage in a conversation at the same time. From the user's perspective, PTT works like a handheld radio. However, users engaged in a conversation can be located anywhere in the US with a connection to the VZW network.
how can i tell if my phone has the gps tracking installed in it?
This is probably a stupid question to ask but, all my friends and family come to me with questions pertaining to Verizon and if i'm not sure or don't know the answer, I usually then come on here to ask ya'll.....anyways the question is: My friend has an Casio G'zOne phone and was thinking about getting it activated again. But wants to know if Verizon still has PTT service he can buy and get? I myself did some research and went on the Verizon site, but couldn't find anywhere on the site about PTT service. Can someone help me out with this? Thanks!

Yes they still have PTT service, if it is a PTT capable phone they can have the service turned on. I know with the new models you can just activate PTT through "change features" option at their "my Verizon" site. the service is $4.99 a month unless you have a commando then the charge is waved. If it doesn't show up under the change features option you can call in and have it activated.
Here is more information about the PTT service.
