I think you need to decide on a provider first. A very big mistake people make is judging a provider on their handset selection (especially the girls with "Sprint has cute flip phones..."). Cingular may not have the coverage you need near your home/work/school, and you might be inclined to blame the phone vs. the service (phone n00b mistake). VZW is a good carrier, except that they lock out features in their handsets making it a little more difficult to customize, but I'm still a GSM fan.

I second what NineToez said above.

Main thing is coverage for your location.

I was in the sam boat as you,

I just opened a line with Cingular, Im in the south florida area and both Verizon and Cingular have great coverage so both carriers were good options, I needed the v710 to work with my car which obviously you know it does not.

I then set up with Cingular, got a Razr V3 and am loving every minute of it, call quality is exceptional, the BT works perfect in all manners including car useage viat BT and file transfers couldnt be easier using a BT USB dongle and my phone, its just a great handset.

It may lack some feature that others may want but the build quality and how good this phone feels in the hand and sounds in voice reproduction make it worth the money for me personally.

I for one am glad I made the switch just for the fact opf the car usage alone.

    Cheers!

I just switched to Cingular from Verizon after having has the V710 phone. I was a good phone but compared to any of the GSM bluetooth phones it is antiquated. The reason that many people want bluetooth is to move images and ring tones back and forth. This is the first thing that Verizon dissabled.

I would check the coverage as the other posts have said. I switched mostly because the coverage with Verizon had gotten terrible at my home. It was a bonus to get a phone that the bluetooth is fully functional and the camera is actually usable inside.

yea my coverage in my area is basically the same with the two carriers, and i love how the razr actually really has bluetooth.

is the speaker good on the razr? and can you close it and keep the call going?...something the v710 cant do...

i dont understand vzw and their new phones tentatively coming out, they suck!

i dont see anything in the near future better than the v710 and i dont want to wait another year or wait 6 months and then pay full outragous retail for something new

it just seems Cingular is always ahead in the game

Let me also note that the speakerphone of the Razr V3 is VERY good in true moto fashion ala most nextell phones. I notice little to no static and loud volume with no breakup in voice, its very well implemented.

Alot of people do not give the razr the props it deserves because of its price, but in the end if the cost is not the main concern and you just want a very good handset that worksextremely well as a phone, then its a great handset to have.

The voice quality is awesome on this phone, talking with people sounds like im at home on a landline, I have nothing but praise on the recieving end aswell, also this phone feels great in the hand, its hard to describe, once you have this handset in your hands you can feel the quality, its not this lite flimsy phone that you would think, it feels very solid and well crafted.

the only thing I am unsure of this phone so far is the smart buttons, they seem a little jiggly, but its not a problem, also this phone allows for some serious key customization, and if you already have the 710 you'll already be used to moto's crappy phone book hehe

Small price to pay for such a great handset.

    Cheers!

I honestly feel one of the most important features on a phone is the speakerphone.
The speakerphone on the v710 is good but you can't close it
I dont care about the stupid cameras (video and digital) they are both useless on practically every phone
It seems like the Razr is just a great phone in a tiny package, and then when you throw in the fully functional BT and rollover with Cingular - i guess it should be a no brainer...

Anyone know when you can switch carriers with out having to pay the cancelation fee? because like i said my contract ends the 25th of this month but i want to change at the right time so i can keep my #....

You can switch on the 25th then

If you switch early as you know your hit with the ETF, the 25th will be your fullfillment date, what happens is you then move on to a month to month basis being uncontracted, when you port out you will be charged a prorate for that particular month based on minutes used.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers!

Thanks a lot, so if i do it right on the 25th I wont lose my # right?

I just want to make sure i dont have to change while i still actually have service, but if i do it on the day the contract ends with verizon i guess it would be perfect

What if i wait a week with out any service, could i still bring my old # to Cingular?

    Thanks again

If your contract ends on the 25th than you can port to cingular at anytime after the 25th.. You won't lose you number. Do not call verizon to cancel.
