I noticed LG's tech support site is screwed up right now, and you can't download any drivers. So, I took the liberty of uploading the USB drivers to Rapidshare for anyone who might want it.

Has anyone tried to upload a VBR encoded MP3 to this phone to see how it can play? For those who are familiar with the LAME encoder, I'm going to try -V 7, which is typically and supposedly smaller than a CBR 128 kbps. One MP3 I re-encoded came out to an average of 100 kbps w/ LAME VBR -V 7.

I just verified it (LAME's -V 7 option) works, and it also sounds even better than CBR 128 kbps (on the computer), not to mention take up less disk space.

Man, it's amazing how this thread for the 8000 is still kicking around! It seems that users have given up on the 8100 and moved on to the 9800 but haven't forgotten about the mighty old 8000!

You got that right, chk! I do not regret my decision to get this phone at all. On Valentine's Day, I will celebrate my 1 year anniversary with this phone. I know it's sad, but it's true. Maybe I'll get a dozen red roses for my phone. I'm kidding!!

One thing I do plan on doing in the immediate future is upgrade my phone's firmware to V06. Maybe that will fix my phone's memory problem that won't allow me to shoot any videos b/c it says no memory is left, even though I have enough free memory.

Wow i can't believe people still talk about this phone. I still have mine 2 . I did upgrade my firmware to v.06. no clue what it did. the only problem i still have is low ringtones. i can't get them loud no matter what i do. except i did use bitpim to make it loud but it came out crappy even when i lowered it. my friend has a nextell & his tones r loud as hell. anyway still luv this phone & don't plan on getting a new one. @beowulf7---im celebrating mine 2.

jsja, congrats on your upcoming 1 year anniversary, too. This is definitely a very good phone for its time and probably still has the best cam of any VZW phone. (I've read mixed reviews on Samsung's new 2 MP phonecam.) I signed a 2-year deal and don't plan on replacing my phone any earlier, unless it breaks or gets lost/stolen. (Knock on wood!)

Sorry to hear that your ringer isn't as loud as you want it to be. Are you referring to the stock ringtones or any new ones you put in there? I used an audio editing program, such as GoldWave, to increase the volume a bit (w/o distorting it).

I'm going to call my local VZW stores to make sure they have new new firmware (V06) to flash my phone. I assume the process will take about an hour or less (I have a lot of files), so I'll have to do something to kill time.

V.06 fixes some known distortion issues with the speakerphone and it also combines your contents and appplication memory into 1. Got it flashed months ago. 45 minutes out the door.

Agreed. Unless mine is useless it stays. The ringtones r new ones plus the stock ones. Tried goldwave but no luck. Thankx

Gentlemen, I just upgraded my phone's firmware to V06. Nothing appears different, other than the "SW VERSION" stuff. Unfortunately, I still cannot shoot video clips. The tech support guy suggested that I replace my phone while it is still in warranty and while VZW still has these phones in stock. So I think I'm going to do that. But what sucks is that I'm going to lose some video clips that BitPim won't allow me to transfer onto my computer. (These other video clips I downloaded while I had VCast.)

Also, I mentioned to the guy that I couldn't access the Get It Now stuff ever since I turned off VCast. He told me that a VZW CSR removed VCast but forget to add two services back. So he put them back and I can now access VCast. Hopefully I won't be tempted into buying anything, otherwise I'll have to call VZW to take Get It Now access off.

beowulf7 hope it works out 4 ya. Does anybody know if u can get "the person doesn't wish 2 talk 2 callers who block their number" service on the cell. So they will have 2 unblock thier number so it shows up on ur cell's id. I have alot of people on my contacts but they have blocked numbers & i never know who it is.

Thanks, jsja. No idea on how to get that standard message for someone who calls you w/ a blocked #. I think VZW had a * or # combination code that allows you to set it up like that. Did you try calling up a VZW CSR?

Wait, does *611 do this? It's some sort of caller ID block, but I think that's if you want to block your # when you make an outgoing call.
