Angry SCP-6000, Surf-A-Lot, and Network Not Available

Yes, I am most defenitely . I activated my SCP-6000 (don't give me lectures on single mode - I don't need to use it out of the 1.9ghz areas) on the 16th of October. I ordered Surf-A-Lot when I activated. Waking up the next day, expecting a working phone and wireless web at my command, all I found was the working phone. Press WEB would get me to "Network not available." I've tried this in downtown Toronto, just outside of Toronto, in my own house. I've sat on hold for a total of around 7 hours. I've called client care around 5 times. I've called data support twice. BOTH TIMES, they told me they would 1) call back or 2) fix the problem by (time) Heeeh, guess what? THE NETWORK IS STILL UNAVAILABLE! Judging by posts to USENET newsgroups and this message board, no one else is having these problems - I even swapped my phone to see if it was a handset problem, but NO. If no one else is having these problems, WHY ME!?

Did they ever ask you what model phone you have? Because its a WAP phone and you have to be sure to tell them its a sanyo 6000 WAP phone.

I'm in vancouver and my sanyo 5000 wasn't working on friday night and saturday for web browsing while everyone else I knew was. All of a sudden, it starting working saturday afternoon.

    Go figure!

Yeah, the lady who activated my phone didn't sound like she knew what phone it WAS... she was giving me instructions for some other phone...

Time to be on hold another few hours! How's this for my 'opening paragraph'?

"Hi. I activated my phone on October 16th and I got Surf A

Lot when I activated. The phone worked, but When I tried

out the microbrowser, I got a 'NETWORK NOT AVAILABLE'

error. I've called client care at least 4 times, data

support twice, and they couldn't solve my problem. They

told me they'd either call back or solve it by a certain

time, and they've done neither. When I activated my phone,

the person who was doing it was giving me the wrong

instructions during programming, which resulted in me

having to go down to my local Telus store to get it

programmed. Anyhow, I still get the NETWORK NOT AVAILABLE

message. I heard from someone I know that the microbrowser

in the SCP-6000 is a newer version than microbrowsers in

other phones, so I was wondering if perhaps the person who

activated my account didn't set my wireless service up for

    an SCP-6000 phone? "

In case anyone cares: I called Telus. After a few minutes of waiting on hold, I told them my problem for the 50th time. The wireless web service is down for people who activated in October. They said it'll be fixed Tuesday by the latest, but I'm sure they really mean Friday, next year.

I care. I hope your service begins to work for you on "schedule".

Newer model phones from Telus are WAP phones which must be configured differently in the Telus web services database.

I'm not sure if the old ones weren't WAP, or if they just operated differently. But all you need to tell them if you have a new model phone is that it is WAP, they know what that means.

    hmm

    I had a similiar problem
but it happened to my sanyo 4000
When i went to mini-browser, the "call" icon would just go on for 2 seoncds, and then go off and say Network Unavavible, i had a full bar. Tried it everywhere, same msg.

Called telus like 1000 times, Replies were, "you have been upgraded to a level 3 situation,, someone will call you back"
"did you try this and that"
"you have to wait for a month before its fixed"
"i've reseted your service" x10, heard that line 10 times

After they said month, im like fine watever....
went to a local telus kisok, told them my prob, got my phone exchanged.
    Back up and running now

Yes, the 4000s and 4500s apparently have some flaw in the manufacturing process that makes (some of) the phones send/recieve signal below specifications and makes it crap out on wireless web. This doesn't happen with the SCP6000. (I tried to get it replaced anyhow - new phone, same problem)
