    wap 1.2.1 vs wap 2.0

i'm this close to getting the gx32 now. it is my understanding that the gx32 has wap 1.2.1 and not 2.0. to anyone who used both, what is the difference?

and will the wap 2.0 settings found in the T-Mobile forums work on the gx32 since it supports wap 1.2.1? if not what settings am i supposed to use?

if there is a big difference between 1.2.1 and 2.0, then it'll really turn me off from the phone.

    The settings are the same.

WAP 1.2.1 isn't as nice as 2.0. For example, lets say you go to wap.ebay.com on a 1.2.1 phone. You'll see EBAY in big black letters. If you do the same thing on a 2.0 phone, then you'll see EBAY in big colorful letters. The same goes for hofo. Basically, the wap 2.0 pages look better than the 1.2.1 pages because they ahve things like added color.

Umm, the GX32 does actually have WAP 2.0 (xHTML) support. I think you are confusing it with Java support, because the GX32's Java support is MIDP 1.0 and not MIDP 2.0.

    So to be clear:

    GX32 supports WAP 2.0
GX32 supports Java MIDP 1.0 (and CJSP profile as well)

It's not the first time they've gotten specs wrong. Sometimes they list preliminary specs, and then forget to update them when they are officially corrected.

Just helps to look at sites other than GSMArena now and then

Couple of things when it comes to WAP, there's the support for the mark-up language and then there's the support for the protocol stack. When it comes to the GX30 etc., the WAP 1.2.1 refers to the protocol stack not the mark-up, so don't worry you'll see the pages in all their glory: The Openwave browser can display content delivered in XHTML Mobile Profile 1.0 (XHTML-MP) with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), the Wireless Markup Language (WML), MMS-SMIL, and a number of other formats. From the user's perspective, it's WAP 2.0 but just without running over HTTP.
The TM200 has a WAP 2.0 stack (HTTP based instead of WAP based) and I can not tell the difference at all between it and the GX30.
In fact, from what I can tell, the only real benefit from moving from WAP 1.2.1 stack to WAP 2.0 stack is for the carrier - instead of having to have a proprietary WAP proxy server, they can use a standard HTTP proxy server instead, which should be easier to source, manage and upgrade.
So don't worry about the browser on the GX32. It spanks the pants off almost all other phones.

The tm150 does wap 2.0 so why do i get the black and white version of yahoo whereas with my v300 yahoo was full color with a image search?

Yeah, that's down to the content provider. Yahoo's serving up a minimal page to the TM150 probably because they don't recognize the phone's user agent string (what's at the top of your post) whereas they know the Motorola one. I get the same minimal page with my TM200 and it is definitely a full WAP 2.0 browser (stack and mark-up) because I entered the HTTP settings myself. I don't have a working Motorola so I've never seen what comes up for that phone.
If you do want a color Yahoo experience on the TM150 you could use the full Web version instead - go to www.yahoo.com on it (actually enter the URL) and choose the full Web version.

    Annoying

I have this same problem - I love the TM150's display and GPRS speed (and it's a bargain on eBay right now). It's like a PDA's screen when surfing, which is why I chose it over the V600 and others. Most xHTML sites works great - full color, etc.

However - the Yahoo! WAP portal looks like it did years ago, since apparently Yahoo! cannot determine through my user string (from the Openwave 6.2 browser I believe) that it can serve the full xHTML site to me. This is an incredible nagging problem since many of the personal features (Local, Image, Photos, RSS, etc.) are then not available since I have only the WML version (the b&W, stripped-down site) available to me via the TM150. A solution that works is just opening WebViewer, and than Yahoo! works great. But, having to open a Java browser and introduce all that lag bugs me.

I emailed Yahoo! about this, but of course just received a form letter saying "thanks for your suggestion". At least I get a non-canned reply from Google when I email them. If there was a place (like a blog) where Yahoo! mobile engineers were available, we could probably get this fixed.

    Until then......annoyed.
