International text messaging is about all I use my Tracfone for anymore. I haven't had any problems, just send the messages to 01+(country code)+(city or area code)+(phone number), just like if I was calling them from a landline. It may not work for all countries/providers, I wouldn't know, but Australia's Telstra users have recieved mine fine.

The worst thing that could happen is them charge you extra for it, yeah? So why not just try it and see? I've never had that happen, though.

Also, my friend on TMN in Portugal has never been able to SMS my T-mobile phone. You think it might work with Tracfone?

The Nokia 1100 GSM TracFones (for the most part) are activated on Cingular, so if TMN has a text messaging agreement with Cingular, it -might- work. Incoming SMS from outside the U.S. may be blocked though, I think it would depend on what agreement TracFone has with Cingular.

ok, I have heard both things, and I want to know if Tracfone's SMS is free to receive, or if it costs .5 units or whatever. Jeremy

Depends on what phone you have. For GSM\Single Rate models, messages are .3 units to send, free to receive. For other phones, which use TDMA or CDMA, the rate is 0.5 to send or receive.
